In his report at the workshop, Comrade Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, said: The southern provinces and cities play a particularly important role in building and defending the Fatherland, being both a key economic region promoting rapid and sustainable growth and development, and a strategic defense region, contributing to firmly protecting national sovereignty and security. The economic development of the southern region not only creates a strong socio-economic potential, but also strengthens the "position and strength" for national defense and security. The workshop has both scientific and practical significance, contributing to supplementing scientific arguments to serve the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in the new situation.

Direct presentations and nearly 80 presentations submitted to the conference analyzed theoretical and practical issues, assessing that after nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation policy, the Party's theoretical thinking on building and defending the Fatherland has increasingly developed and perfected, suitable for each revolutionary stage, especially in the context of deep and comprehensive international integration. That is the important basis and condition for the southern provinces and cities in particular, and the whole country in general, to unite and join hands to well carry out the two strategic tasks of building and defending the Fatherland.

Speaking at the workshop, Major General Le Xuan The, Commander of Military Region 7, said: With its position as a strategic area, the economic, political and cultural center of the Southern region, the Party Committee and Command of Military Region 7 always coordinate with Provincial and Municipal Party Committees in leading and directing local military and defense work. Military Region 7 plays a core role in the task of maintaining friendly relations and defense cooperation with neighboring countries, while also ensuring defense and security on the border, sea areas and key areas in the South. In the 2020-2025 period alone, Military Region 7 and localities mobilized resources with a total budget of more than 15,200 billion VND to ensure military and defense tasks.

The presentations also analyzed the historical context and requirements for the two strategic tasks in the new situation; pointed out the role of the political system in the southern provinces and cities in the two strategic tasks, promoting the combined strength of the great national unity bloc, the combined strength coming from the factors: Politics, military, economy, science - technology, culture, foreign affairs; the importance of "people's hearts and minds", the role and responsibility of the masses for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in the new situation.   

In his closing remarks at the workshop, Dr. Hoang Trung Dung, member of the Party Central Committee and Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine, emphasized: The discussion at the workshop continued to affirm that resolving well the relationship between building and protecting the Fatherland is of special importance, contributing to the synchronous implementation of socio-economic development tasks as the center, Party building as the key, developing culture - the spiritual foundation of society, ensuring national defense and security as an important and regular task.

From the results obtained at the workshop, the organizing committee will collect and select, in order to have proposals and recommendations to the Party and State on a number of key and fundamental solutions so that the southern provinces and cities in particular and the whole country in general can continue to well implement the spirit of Resolution No. 44-NQ/TW dated November 24, 2023 of the 13th Party Central Committee on "Strategy for protecting the Fatherland in the new situation".
