Attending the workshop were leaders of provincial departments, branches and sectors; members of the Standing Committee of the 3rd term of the Federation of Associations; leaders of member associations of the Federation; representatives of specialized agencies of the City People's Committee.
Son La is a province with great potential for water resources, with 35 large streams, the two main rivers are the 280 km long Da River and the 90 km long Ma River, along with many tributaries. The density of rivers and streams here is 1.3 km per km², but the distribution is uneven. Rivers and streams often have steep slopes and many rapids due to the high, deeply divided mountainous terrain. According to the plan, the province's surface water volume is about 19 billion m³ each year, mainly rainwater stored in the Da River and Ma River. The province's groundwater volume is estimated at more than 3 million m³ per day and night.
Due to the impact of climate change, along with the increasing demand for water for economic sectors, there is a shortage of water for production and daily life in some areas. Along with that, water sources are being polluted due to untreated wastewater and plastic waste being discharged directly into the environment. The overuse of fertilizers and pesticides also has a serious impact on water sources.
The presentations at the workshop helped state management agencies propose solutions to protect and sustainably use water resources in the province in the coming time.
