Workshop on Teaching Vietnamese Language and Culture in Kyushu, Japan

The workshop was organized by the Consulate General (GC) in coordination with the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka, attracting more than 120 delegates to attend in person and online.

Speaking at the opening of the Workshop, Consul General Vu Chi Mai affirmed that this is an important activity to kick off a series of events of the TLSQ to implement the Project "Day to Honor Vietnamese Language in the Overseas Vietnamese Community (NVNONN) for the period 2023 - 2030" approved by the Prime Minister with practical activities such as participating in the Contest "Searching for Vietnamese Language Ambassadors Abroad"; activities to honor individuals, organizations and associations that have made positive contributions to the movement to preserve and spread the Vietnamese language; building a Vietnamese language bookshelf...

According to Ms. Mai, teaching Vietnamese language and culture to second and third generation Vietnamese children has many profound meanings, helping to enhance national pride, cultural identity, Vietnamese traditions, and increase awareness and understanding of society, building close family relationships.

Encouraging the use of Vietnamese in second and third generation families helps build strong and developing communities and creates important human resources contributing to the increasingly developing comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan in all fields.

Mr. Mai Phan Dung, Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said that many initiatives to organize practical activities to consolidate and develop movements to propagate and maintain the Vietnamese language; build and develop Vietnamese schools, classes, centers... such as: Vietnamese School in Tokyo, Vietnamese Whisper in Osaka, Saitama Vietnamese, Hoa Mai Class in Kobe... have promoted many types of Vietnamese teaching and learning, creating a favorable environment for preserving and creating a Vietnamese cultural and language space.

Mr. Mai Phan Dung especially praised the initiative to organize a course on teaching Vietnamese language and culture for Vietnamese children in Kyushu, Japan; affirmed that this is a priceless gift for Vietnamese children far from the Fatherland who are still being nurtured in the care of traditional Vietnamese culture and language and hoped that such meaningful initiatives would continue to be replicated not only in Northeast Asia, but also around the world .

At the workshop, Dr. Kondo Mika, majoring in Vietnamese - Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​- Osaka University, presented a paper on preserving language and culture for children of Vietnamese origin, especially how to ensure opportunities to learn Vietnamese and Vietnamese culture in schooleducation in Japan; Master Hua Ngoc Tan, Dai Nam University, shared experiences from Taiwan (China) on building and organizing Vietnamese language and culture teaching programs; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Lan Trung presented on guidelines for Vietnamese language teaching curriculum and Vietnamese language teaching methods...

Within the framework of the Workshop, the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka officially launched the "Vietnamese Language Committee" to honor and preserve the Vietnamese language and culture; develop and implement Vietnamese language teaching methods for parents in parallel with the Vietnamese language teaching and learning program for children and the second and third generations. Consul General Vu Chi Mai, on behalf of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented 120 books and Vietnamese language teaching materials to the Vietnamese Language Committee.
