The work is carefully compiled from many original sources such as: Complete Party Documents, articles published in Cuu Quoc, Su That, Doc Lap... along with memories, speeches, letters of revolutionaries, artists and the masses who lived in the historical moment. Thereby, the book recreates the whole picture of the August 1945 General Uprising from the context, opportunity, the sharp leadership of the Party, to the seething spirit of the entire people rising up to seize power, opening an era of independence and freedom for the nation.

The book's content is divided into 2 chapters: "Historical milestones" gathers important documents, appeals and declarations such as Military Order No. 1, President Ho Chi Minh's Declaration of Independence...; "Unforgettable years" bears the imprint of memories through the writings of many historical witnesses such as Truong Chinh, Vo Nguyen Giap, Tran Huy Lieu, Xuan Thuy, To Hoai... Stories about "August Days in Hanoi ", "Capturing Hue", "Breaking Ba To Prison", or the image of "a Vietnamese girl tying up the Japanese enemy alive" are told truthfully and evocatively.

Not only stopping at the events of 1945, the book also connects the historical thread over the past 80 years, from two long resistance wars to the construction and renovation of the country. Each page of the book is not only a valuable research document, but also a reminder of the noble sacrifice of our ancestors, at the same time inspiring today's generation to continue on the path of independence - freedom - happiness.
