After 4 days of interruption due to the impact of Storm No. 13, trains can run smoothly on the North-South railway through the landslide area at a speed of 5km/h.
According to the VNR Railway Corporation, storm No. 13 caused serious landslides in the Phuoc Lanh - Van Canh section. After 4 days and nights of efforts, the North - South railway line has been restored. "At 11:00 p.m. on November 10, 2025, the Railway sector restored the North - South railway line, the section passing through Xuan Lanh commune, Dak Lak province," the Railway Corporation said.
Previously, storm No. 13 caused heavy rain and strong winds in the provinces from Quang Ngai to Tuy Hoa, many sections of the North-South railway were damaged, disrupting train operations. In particular, the area Km1136+850 in the Phuoc Lanh - Van Canh section suffered the most serious landslide, with a length of nearly 70 meters, the deepest point up to 9 meters.

The North-South railway has been operating normally after storm 13.
Faced with that situation, the Vietnam Railway industry determined this to be an urgent task, so it promptly mobilized forces, vehicles and equipment from three Railway Joint Stock Companies Phu Khanh, Thuan Hai and Nghia Binh, focusing all efforts on overcoming the problem, with the goal of clearing the route in the fastest time.
According to the plan, in phase 1, mobilized forces will build a temporary bridge consisting of two abutments, two pillars and three steel girder spans, ensuring that ships can pass through the landslide area at a limited speed of about 5 km/hour.
To speed up the construction progress, the railway sector has opened a service road connecting National Highway 19C to the landslide area, creating conditions for trucks to transport materials. Along with that, trains carrying rocks and technical materials have also been arranged to run to both ends of the landslide, shortening the time to supply materials.
Surveying and measuring the terrain were carried out in parallel to adjust suitable solutions, ensuring both technical and safety for the construction force in complex geological conditions. Nearly 300 workers were divided into many construction teams, working in three shifts, four shifts, day and night with high determination to clear the route as soon as possible.
After a four-day temporary interruption, trains can now run smoothly on the North-South railway through the landslide area at a speed of 5km/h. Passenger and freight transport has officially resumed.
Next, phase 2 will be implemented, with the construction of permanent works and reinforcement of the roadbed to ensure long-term safety for the route.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Vuong, Deputy General Director of VNR, the estimated implementation time will take from 6 to 9 months. Mr. Vuong proposed that competent authorities soon allow VNR to immediately deploy the permanent steel bridge to ensure the speed and safety of trains.
