Along with improving service quality and putting large aircraft into operation, after 4 months of re-operation, the Airport Dien Bien has welcomed more than 900 flights arriving/departing, well meeting the travel needs of people in the region.

After being upgraded and expanded, Dien Bien airport can now handle modern large aircraft Airbus A320, A321. With a flight frequency of 7 flights/week from Hanoi to Dien Bien and 3 flights/week from Ho Chi Minh City to Dien Bien, the number of passengers traveling to and from Dien Bien has increased and stabilized.
"The output of exploitation through Dien Bien Airport from the time it resumed operations (December 1, 2023) to March 31 reached 906 flights with a total of 69,900 passengers (of which 34,911 were departing passengers; 34,989 were arriving passengers)," said a representative of the leader of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV).
Dien Bien Airport is a key project of great significance for national defense and security, creating a breakthrough in infrastructure, contributing to attracting investment and promoting economic development of the whole region.

In particular, 2024 is the "Dien Bien National Tourism Year", associated with the 70th anniversary of With the Dien Bien Phu victory, it is estimated that the number of tourists will increase significantly. Dien Bien airport will be upgraded, expanded, and become more convenient; along with the promotion of tourism and services, the goal of welcoming 2 million tourists by 2025 of Dien Bien province is completely achievable.
Last March, a witness to the history of Dien Bien Phu fulfilled her wish to visit the place where her wedding took place 70 years ago. That was the case of Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Ngoc Toan (94 years old), wife of Lieutenant General Cao Van Khanh, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, a famous general in the Dien Bien Phu campaign. They had a "famous wedding" that took place right at De Castries Tunnel (De Castries tunnel) just a few days after the Dien Bien Phu victory.
With the convenience of being able to fly directly from Ho Chi Minh City to Dien Bien, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Ngoc Toan set foot in Dien Bien during the days when the whole country was looking towards this historic land.

Many passengers from Lai Chau and Son La provinces also traveled to Dien Bien Phu to fly to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, creating a much busier atmosphere than before. Ensuring aviation security, safety and service quality is ACV's top priority.
Dien Bien Airport has been invested in new, modern equipment after upgrading and expanding, such as biometric systems, using electronic citizen identification cards for air passengers; ground service equipment, terminal equipment... The smooth coordination between Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air and Dien Bien Airport has contributed to stability and has been highly appreciated by passengers since the airport resumed operations.
Currently, the summer flight schedule has just been announced by two airlines operating flights to/from Dien Bien, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air, increasing the flight frequency, bringing the number to 42 flights/week.

At the conference to review the work of the first quarter and deploy key tasks of the second quarter of 2024 of the Ministry of Transport held on the afternoon of April 1, providing information on the results of investment in transport infrastructure, Chief of the Ministry's Office Uong Viet Dung said that through monitoring and evaluation from many different channels, the projects and transport works in the recent past, when completed and put into operation, have immediately promoted efficiency, helping to promote transport activities, contributing significantly to socio-economic development in the first months of the year.
“Typically, when Dien Bien Airport was put into operation, it helped medium-range aircraft take off and land directly, and at the same time, it was possible to operate long-haul flights to Ho Chi Minh City and other countries in the region, contributing to connecting traffic, attracting investment in the Northwestern provinces, and strengthening national defense and security in the region. Statistics show that the number of passengers in the first quarter through Dien Bien Airport increased by more than 38% over the same period in 2022 and increased by nearly 77% over the same period in 2021,” Mr. Uong Viet Dung emphasized.
