On February 17, the Liaison Committee of Former Cambodian Experts in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) held a meeting to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the victory over the genocide regime in Cambodia (January 7, 1979 - January 7, 2024).

During 10 years (1979-1989), Ho Chi Minh City sent 500 long-term experts, about 500 short-term experts and hundreds of short-term working teams to help Cambodia restore the socio -economic activities of the capital Phnom Penh.
Over the past 10 years, the A50 Group has worked with other countries to build, protect and develop Phnom Penh city, achieving important results in many fields. The experts, officers and staff of the A50 Group have successfully fulfilled their international obligations to help restore and rebuild the capital city of Phnom Penh in a comprehensive manner.

In 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City Liaison Committee of Former Cambodian Experts in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Command and the Binh Phuoc Provincial Military Command organized a visit to Route X16 and the memorial complex of former Prime Minister Hun Sen's journey to find a way to save the country in Binh Phuoc province.
On the occasion of the 2024 Lunar New Year, the Liaison Committee visited some outstanding senior comrades and their families to welcome the new year; visited sick and ill former experts. At the same time, it helped former officials and experts and continued to participate in reviewing and supporting former officials and experts to implement Decision 57 of the Prime Minister on one-time subsidies for people working in Cambodia (about 800 people). In addition, it actively participated in the activities of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City, especially supporting the neighboring country in the election of the 7th National Assembly, term 2023-2028; actively participate in activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Cambodia's National Day (November 9, 1953 - November 9, 2023). Sharing with reporters, Mr. Nguyen Van Trieu, Deputy Standing Committee of the Liaison Committee of Former Experts Helping Cambodian Friends in Ho Chi Minh City, shared that with the consent of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, every year, the Liaison Committee sits together to review the memories, difficulties, and hardships experienced during the time helping friends restore the socio-economic situation (1979-1989).
As Deputy of the Liaison Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Trieu, on behalf of the Head of the Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Hanh, former member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, former Head of the A50 Expert Group, Head of the Liaison Committee of Former Experts Helping Cambodian Friends in Ho Chi Minh City, due to his advanced age (98 years old), prepared the meeting carefully and wholeheartedly. According to Mr. Trieu, each meeting was a time when he and the members were moved.
“As time goes by, the number of members gradually decreases due to some comrades getting old and weak. Every time we meet, we will encourage each other to live happily, live healthily and continue to make more contributions and suggestions for the cause of building and developing the country. At the same time, we will also pass on the flame of patriotism to the younger generation; nurturing the Vietnam - Cambodia friendship to be forever green and sustainable,” Mr. Trieu shared.

The meeting also presented awards from the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City to individuals who have made positive contributions to people-to-people diplomacy activities.
On January 7, 1979, Cambodia was completely liberated from the Pol Pot genocide. In response to the call of the Cambodian Government, our Party and State sent thousands of Vietnamese officials and experts from all over the country in the fields of politics, economics, culture, society, security, defense, etc. to help Cambodia rebuild the country. In 1989, the Vietnamese expert delegation completed their mission and returned home. On July 12, 2019, the Party and State awarded the Gold Star Order to the Vietnamese expert force helping Cambodia; recognizing and evaluating the great and outstanding contributions and achievements of the Vietnamese expert force, including the A50 Group of Ho Chi Minh City helping Phnom Penh in the period 1979-1989. |
