On the evening of October 26, the Department of Education and Training of Hue City issued a notice to students across the city to stay home from school to cope with heavy rain and widespread flooding.
According to forecasts, from the evening of October 26 to 28, Hue City will have heavy to very heavy rain, with total rainfall ranging from 250-500mm, up to 700mm in some places. Heavy rain can cause widespread flooding and landslides in mountainous and coastal areas.
To cope with heavy rain, Hue City has requested Huong Dien Hydropower Reservoir, Binh Dien Hydropower Reservoir and Ta Trach Irrigation Reservoir to increase water discharge to lower the reservoir capacity, ready to cut floods caused by heavy rain.
It is forecasted that during this period of rain, floods on the Huong River and the Bo River will reach alert level 3. To ensure the safety of parents and students during the rainy and flood days, the Department of Education and Training of Hue City has issued a notice for students to stay home from school.
Schools are also required to prepare facilities and classrooms to be able to become temporary accommodation for people evacuated from dangerous areas.
Also on October 26, heavy rain caused many low-lying areas and roads in Hue City to be flooded.
In Nguyen Huu Canh street (An Cuu ward, Hue city), water rose high and flooded into houses and student dormitories.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duy (37 years old, living on Nguyen Huu Canh street) said: "It rained heavily from noon until about 4:00 p.m. The water started to rise very quickly, and at about 4:30 p.m. the water flooded the house. Seeing the water rising quickly, my wife and I immediately moved our belongings up high to avoid damage. In this situation, the rain will get heavier, and if the water continues to rise, my family and I will have to find a higher place to avoid flooding."

Rising water also forced people in low-lying areas to rush to park their cars in high places to avoid flooding.
Mr. Ngoc Minh (residing in Vy Da ward, Hue city) said this was the third time this week he had to drive his car to park at the Centralized Administrative Park.
"Seeing the heavy rain, rising water flooding many streets like To Huu, Hoang Lanh... makes me so worried. It's a bit miserable, but it's better than letting my beloved car be flooded," said Mr. Minh.
To inform people about heavy rain, Hue City also turned on the disaster warning siren system at the Central Administrative Center and Hue City Military Command.
