Hue City teachers soak in flood water to clean up mud after historic flood

GD&TĐ - After the historic flood, teachers at many schools in Hue City immediately started cleaning up mud and dirt to minimize damage to teaching equipment.

The massive flood submerged everything in most schools in Hue City. Being submerged in water for a long time, a large number of desks, chairs, and learning equipment of students and teachers are likely to be severely damaged.

With the motto of clearing up mud as the tide recedes, staff and teachers of Phu Duong Kindergarten (Duong No ward) were mobilized to work hard to clear up mud.

Pushing mud out of flood water when the water has just receded needs to be done quickly, a race against time because if you are slow, the mud will stick to the tables and chairs and cause damage.

Teachers immersed themselves in the flood to clean tables and chairs. Ms. Vo Thi Phuong Khanh, Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Phu Xuan Ward, discussed and quickly reported that out of 33 schools, 29 schools were attacked by floodwaters.

Mud flooded Phu Binh Primary School (Phu Xuan Ward), teachers had to work hard to clean continuously. The average flood level at schools on the northern bank of the Huong River was about level with the windows of first-floor classrooms, causing much damage to desks, chairs, televisions, computers...

Mr. Duong Quang Nam, Principal of Tran Quoc Toan Primary School (Phu Xuan Ward) said: “All the classrooms on the lower floors were flooded and full of mud after the flood. Student notebooks in the classrooms were damaged. Documents in the office and the Vice Principal's office were damaged by water. The school's loudspeaker system was severely damaged by the floodwaters.”

"Because many teachers' houses are still deeply flooded, teachers who live in high areas were mobilized to come to the school to clean up the principal's office, the medical room and the multi-purpose building. When the water recedes, the school will mobilize everyone to clean up the flood," said Mr. Nam.

Ms. Tran Thi Ha Trang, Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Sciences, Hue University, said: “The flood has caused damage to the school, especially records and electronic equipment. Mud has flooded into most classrooms, making cleaning very difficult. The amount of infrastructure that needs to be cleaned is huge, almost the entire row of buildings is affected."

"The school mobilized all lecturers and students to participate in the cleanup. Everyone worked with enthusiasm, solidarity and made every effort to quickly stabilize all activities," said Ms. Trang.

Some kindergartens were initially cleaned up.

Children's toys are cleaned and waited for the water to recede before being brought down to the school yard.

Some equipment was moved to higher ground to avoid the flood so luckily it was not damaged.
