Director Huy An shares with Tuoi Tre the journey of a young person who embarked on the art of drama. For him, the stage is a place where artists and audiences create and express their own voices.
From the station manager
Huy An's passion for the catwalk gradually took shape naturally during his high school days:
"I worked hard, assigned tasks to everyone, wrote the script, and was the MC.
The conventionality of the stage, the feeling of preparation backstage, the solidarity of the group, the energy of the actors and the audience have fascinated me since then.
As a director, I like to take care of other people to shine."
During his university years, Huy An studied and experienced staging many types of plays such as Truong Ba's Soul, Butcher's Body, Laughing Forest, Tartuffe, Farewell My Concubine ...
It took nearly 2 years to choose the script and then start working on the graduation play 369 (the first version of Where the End Begins ). Huy An also carefully considered the future vitality of the play because the budget was not small.

An shared: "For a play to have a long-lasting vitality, in addition to its academic nature, it needs to satisfy the public's taste. When watching artist Thanh Loc stage it, I think my uncle and I have the same thought of wanting to bring contemporary elements to the plays, the important thing is the balance between art and entertainment. And I also always prioritize choosing new topics that have not been staged on any stage yet."
The opportunity to work with big names in the theater such as Thanh Loc and Huu Chau helped Huy An learn more about creative staging styles, how to demonstrate to actors and express the director's independent point of view.
"Doing your job properly is what I learned from Uncle Loc. When you are a director, don't let your ego as an actor overwhelm you and vice versa. No matter what position you are in, you need to be respectful and only say what is true to your expertise and role," Huy An confided.

While still in school, Huy An also did many jobs to make a living. He went through many positions in a stage operation team such as backstage, follow light adjustment, music adjustment, stage design... and worked as a freelance director.
Many familiar audiences of Thien Dang often remember Huy An's bright eyes and bright smile when he held up the stage regulations sign to greet them before the opening of each show, then affectionately called An "station director".
According to Huy An, these basic tasks helped him better understand the overall stage and easily do directing work.

'I have to respect'
Huy An revealed that he had many teachers, but the most important "ferrymen" to him were People's Artist Giang Manh Ha, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc and Meritorious Artist Huu Chau.

Confiding in Tuoi Tre , artist Thanh Loc said that from the very first days of Thien Dang's formation, Huy An had accompanied many new projects here. At that time, An was still a final year student.
According to Thanh Loc, perhaps thanks to the professional and practical working environment, Huy An has gained more experience in his directorial thinking:
"As a director, Huy An proves his mettle in the moderate expression of a humble person, convincing enough to his colleagues with his knowledge and staging skills.
An brings positive energy and enthusiasm to his colleagues. Everyone feels comfortable working with him. An is always punctual, energetic, polite and always knows how to admit his weaknesses.
When An was the director of the plays Giang Huong and Lo Hang , he loved the plays so much that I mistakenly thought they were his works and not mine! That is the dedication and responsibility that few young people have and is also a good quality that an artist needs to have."
Thanh Loc remembers that there was a time when his play was being performed, while backstage Huy An was still trying to do his job as the station director very well but still took the opportunity to quietly turn on the computer:
"Every sentence of dialogue, every detail on the art design drawing, he kept correcting and perfecting until he invited me to see his graduation play. He is a diligent young man that I have to respect."
The stage needs people like Huy An.

On the night of the graduation report, Huy An and his team did not receive flowers and gifts from relatives and friends but received rice. Nearly two tons of graduation rice were brought by An to charity locations in Ho Chi Minh City such as: Artists' Nursing Home, Phu Dinh Charity Class, Lien Hoa Pagoda's Blind Monastery...
Both artists Giang Manh Ha and Thanh Loc believe that Where the End Begins is just the beginning for Huy An.
Mr. Giang Manh Ha, Huy An's direct teacher, told Tuoi Tre : "An is a student with the potential to become a director. To become a successful stage director, one needs to have a streak of 3 to 5 plays that are well received by the public, the press, and professionals. I hope Huy An's first work will have a long life and this will be a catalyst for him to continue to devote himself to creating many valuable plays."
