Cho Gao District: Spreading the movement of planting trees to protect the environment

Since 2011, Cho Gao district has started implementing the policy of building new rural areas. Most communes in the district have a low starting point. Many communes have only achieved 6 to 7 criteria, the highest is 8/19 criteria. Most communes have not yet met the Environmental criteria.

Among the NTM criteria, the Environmental criterion is one of the criteria that the political system and the people have strongly promoted. The district has widely spread the movement of planting trees to protect the environment. This work has received attention and direction from all levels, sectors and high consensus from the people. Sectors and levels have carried out propaganda to the branches, union members, members and people about the benefits and significance of planting trees and actively participated in planting trees to contribute to environmental protection, responding to climate change associated with rapid and sustainable development.

The cultural route of My Thanh hamlet, Hoa Dinh commune, was planted and cared for by the people early on, then spread strongly in 2017, the Party cell and the Hamlet Front Committee mobilized the people to plant and care for ornamental trees on the 1,000 m long route. This is a route that the people agreed to maintain and together take care of to beautify the cultural route.

Through direct participation in tree planting, each person has gradually formed a sense of self-awareness in protecting and developing trees, creating a widespread movement from the grassroots.

Responding to this movement, communes and towns in the district have simultaneously launched tree planting to contribute to economic development, environmental protection, and response to climate change. In particular, Binh Ninh commune is one of the localities that pays great attention to this activity and maintains tree care, forming model roads, making the picture of the first model new rural commune of Cho Gao district more vivid.

18/18 communes and towns in the district have well organized waste collection activities, building green - clean - beautiful environmental landscapes. Through launching and organizing the movement to build "Model families", "Bright - green - clean - beautiful - secure roads", flower roads, up to now, the number of kilometers of commune roads, inter-commune roads, hamlet roads, inter-hamlet roads and public areas planted with flowers, shade trees, ornamental plants, lawns... is 759/759 km (reaching 100%); the rate of households with green - clean - beautiful environmental landscapes is 93.27%...

Some other models that have been implemented among the people, contributing to the work of building landscapes and spaces in the whole district to ensure brightness - greenness - cleanliness - beauty and safety, include: the "5 no's and 3 clean" family model of the Women's Union; the model of classifying and treating organic waste at households; the model of collecting recyclable waste...

As a result, up to now, 100% of communes and towns have environmental self-management teams; 100% of domestic solid waste is collected and sent to treatment areas; all communes and towns have classified waste at source at a rate of 70% or more, contributing to reducing the amount of domestic waste that must be treated at centralized treatment areas.

In addition, the People's Committee at the commune level also assigns the task of mobilizing the people and planting trees on the roads as a regular task. Planting trees not only becomes a beautiful traditional cultural feature, but also brings great economic and social benefits to the locality; making the landscape increasingly green - clean - beautiful, enhancing the protection of water resources, mitigating natural disasters and floods, improving the living environment, regulating the climate, etc.

Through the survey results (assessing people's satisfaction) and comments from the district Fatherland Front, district socio-political organizations and communes meeting the standards of NTM and advanced NTM, it is shown that people are unanimously satisfied with the results of building advanced NTM from 97.14% to 100%. It can be seen that this is a very positive result, reflecting the consensus and high support of the rural community for the NTM building program.

Up to now, the district has 18/18 new rural communes, 10/18 communes meeting advanced new rural commune standards, 1 model new rural commune, and a town meeting civilized urban standards. The district was recognized by the Prime Minister as an advanced new rural district in 2024.

The active initiative of the political system and people of Cho Gao district in planting and caring for ornamental plants contributes to beautifying the landscape and environment, creating a greener - cleaner - more beautiful living space; at the same time, raising awareness of environmental protection and sustainable development in the community.
