Hyundai Tucson 2026 has AI assistant, adds PHEV hybrid version

Hyundai is preparing to introduce the latest generation of its best-selling Tucson SUV in 2026, codenamed NX5.

The new Hyundai Tucson 2026 is considered the most groundbreaking version ever with many comprehensive changes in design, technology and transmission. Experts say that the Tucson 2026 is likely to be the last SUV using an internal combustion engine before the Korean automaker completely switches to electric vehicles.

Although not officially revealed, Tucson 2026 is predicted to have a square, aggressive and much more modern style than the current generation. The new design is inspired by the "Art of Steel" language - a blend of sharp sculpture and nostalgic inspiration, as seen on the N Vision 74 concept or Hyundai NEXO.

Like the 2024 Santa Fe, the new generation Tucson can pursue a high-end off-road SUV style, reminiscent of Land Rover, bringing a strong, imposing image and more in line with global trends.

A special highlight of the 2026 Tucson is the new entertainment system called Pleos Connect - developed by Hyundai subsidiary Forty2Dot on the Android Automotive platform. This allows the car to update software like a smartphone, while supporting flexible customization for users and developers.

In addition, the new Tucson is also equipped with a level 2.5 autonomous driving system and the Gleo AI virtual assistant, allowing natural voice control, rich interaction and supporting many features such as navigation, entertainment, air conditioning, lighting,...

Gleo is a new generation virtual assistant developed by Hyundai specifically for the smart car ecosystem. Unlike ChatGPT which requires a constant internet connection and mainly operates on a text platform, Gleo is deeply integrated into the car system.

Gleo not only recognizes and responds to voice in real time, but also understands driving context, learns user habits, directly controls vehicle functions such as air conditioning, heated seats, navigation systems, and even suggests optimal routes. Personalization and offline operation also make Gleo superior when used in a car environment.

Hyundai will completely eliminate the diesel engine option on the 2026 Tucson – a move in line with its strategy to reduce emissions and promote green cars. Instead, the two main configurations will be Hybrid (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV). Of which, the PHEV version has an electric-only operating range of up to 100km – an outstanding parameter in the segment.

In Vietnam, Hyundai Tucson is currently one of the best-selling C-class SUVs in the segment. With a series of major upgrades, Tucson 2026 can be assembled domestically by TC Group as it is now or import some high-end versions.

The standard version is expected to start at around VND950 million, while the PHEV version is likely to approach VND1.2 - 1.3 billion depending on the configuration and accompanying technology. The 2026 Tucson is expected to be an important factor in Hyundai's hybrid and electric vehicle strategy in Southeast Asia.
