The Indonesian Olympic Committee explained that the decision to cancel was made because " the government delayed its financial commitment and did not have time to organize the Games".
Indonesia has withdrawn its commitment to host the second World Beach Games and the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly in Bali in August this year.
On July 4, ANOC sent a letter informing the host Indonesia of the above decision to the international federations participating in the World Beach Games.
According to Antara news agency, in the letter, ANOC said the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) explained that the decision was made because "the government delayed financial commitments and did not have time to organize the Games".
The late announcement left ANOC unable to find a replacement country and left it with no choice but to decide to cancel this year's World Beach Games.
Previously, in October 2021, the ANOC General Assembly selected Indonesia as the host of the second World Beach Games, after Doha (Qatar) in 2019.
According to the original plan, the 2023 World Beach Games will be held from August 5-12, with the participation of about 1,600 athletes from 130 countries, while the ANOC General Assembly will take place from August 13-15.
