According to the Indonesian press, the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) is looking forward to becoming the host country for the 4th qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup. With home field advantage, Indonesia will have more strength to aim for a ticket to the World Cup.
PSSI has officially sent a request to FIFA and AFC to achieve this wish. The 4th qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup will take place in October. Indonesia may face a series of strong opponents such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar or UAE in the upcoming stage.
PSSI President Erick Thohir affirmed the need for transparency in the selection of the host country. Notably, countries with rich potential such as Qatar or Saudi Arabia also applied to host. That makes PSSI face a big challenge.

Compared to Indonesia, countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia have very good facilities. They have hosted many tournaments at the continental level as well as the World Cup. Qatar hosted the 2022 World Cup. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia was chosen to host the tournament in 2034.
Recently, the Indonesian Government has approved a budget of 200,000 billion Rupiah per year (about 320 billion VND) for PSSI to realize its dream of participating in the World Cup. They are the first Southeast Asian team to pass the third qualifying round of the World Cup.
In the fourth qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, six teams will be divided into two groups of three teams each. Only the group winners will qualify for the World Cup. The two second-placed teams in each group will advance to the fifth qualifying round.
