The animated film about teenage struggles "Inside Out 2" has become the best-selling work at the North American box office, reaching a huge revenue of 155 million USD in its first week of release.

With this achievement, "Inside Out 2" has surpassed "Dune: Part Two" ($82.5 million) and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" ($80 million), becoming the film with the biggest opening revenue since the beginning of the year.

This is also the first film since July 2023 to have a debut revenue of over 100 million USD in North America.

Not only that, "Inside Out 2" also achieved very high international box office revenue with 140 million USD, surpassing "Frozen 2" (135 million USD) to become the foreign animated film with the biggest opening of all time, up to this point.

Notably, in Latin America, the film achieved the second-largest opening of all time, after "Marvel Avengers: Endgame." Globally, "Inside Out 2" earned $295 million to win the title of the highest-grossing animated film when it debuted while the production budget was $200 million.

"Inside Out 2" is the sequel to the 2015 Oscar-winning "Inside Out ." The new film is Pixar's second-biggest box office hit in North America, behind 2018's "Incredibles 2 " ($182 million).

Directed by Kelsey Mann, the film is set two years after the events of the first part. Riley (voiced by Amy Poehler) is now 13 years old, experiencing many psychological and physiological changes.

The five emotions Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear struggle to help Riley cope with the newness of hockey camp. As a result, a new group of Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment join the group.

While trying to control their master's mood, the emotions constantly quarrel. The conflict culminates in the Anxiety group taking control and expelling the former member from the Headquarters. They are forced to find a way back to balance Riley's personality.

The film takes on the theme of a coming-of-age crisis, addressing the issues that young people face. The emergence of new emotions marks a mental change, as Riley worries about her friendships, studies and self-image.

By delving into the inner self of the character, the work shows a period of many changes, helping to form a person's personality. As she grows up, Riley wants to explore the world , find a way to integrate with the world. But this also makes her distant from her family, disagree with those around her, and even put aside her interests to make new friends.

Joy and Anxiety both want to help Riley become her perfect version, but each emotion has a different way of thinking. Joy believes that she can only be herself if she always maintains a positive lifestyle, while Anxiety guides her choices in the present, so that she will not regret her decision later. From there, the work asks the question: Will we accept ourselves for who we are, or become the person that society wants us to be?

The film does not convey a great lesson but makes the audience sympathize through many details. In one situation, Vui admits that she is not always happy. Sometimes thinking positively makes her difficult. In another part, the character says: "Maybe this is what growing up is like, being less happy every day."

According to Variety magazine, the project is an allegory, expressing the human desire to integrate and be recognized. The work encourages viewers to experience and correct mistakes, and at the same time accept the imperfections in life.

Through the animator's transformation, emotions appear on the big screen one by one. Compared to part one, this project has more characters, to reveal psychological complexity. The graphics are invested in, expressed through both the setting and the characters. The film brings new concepts such as the Identity Tree, the Belief System, the River of Desire, and the Ridiculous Abyss.

The film received a "shower" of compliments, highly appreciated by experts for its content and animation techniques. Variety commented that the film was not as surprising as the first part but was emotional, with many layers of meaning about maturity.

Digital Spy said that Inside Out 2 approaches the 13+ age group in a humorous, creative way that will resonate with a wide audience. The film received an A Cinema Score and received 92% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
