Global smartphone sales in the third quarter grew 4% year-on-year, according to a report from market research firm Counterpoint Research .

Sales were driven by strong growth in a range of markets including India, the Middle East, Africa, Japan and several countries in the Asia- Pacific region (APAC). Meanwhile, markets such as North America and Europe saw declines.
“Demand for premium devices remains strong, while low-cost 5G devices are also gaining traction in regions like India, Africa and APAC,” said Shilpi Jain, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research .
The Japanese market recorded a 15% year-on-year growth thanks to stable demand for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e product lines. Meanwhile, purchasing power in China has slowed down due to inventory liquidation.
In the third quarter, Samsung continued to maintain its leading position with a 19% market share, up 6% year-on-year. This growth mainly came from the success of the Galaxy A product line.
The recently launched Galaxy Z Fold7 model also achieved relatively good performance in the market thanks to promotions and consumer interest in foldable devices.
Apple ranked second with 18% of the global market share, up 9% year-on-year. Apple is also the manufacturer that recorded the highest growth among the top 5 smartphone brands in the market.

The newly launched iPhone 17 series has been well received by the market, recording record high pre-orders. That has helped the company grow strongly in Japan, China, Western Europe and some regions in Asia- Pacific .
Xiaomi came in third with a 14% market share and a 2% year-on-year growth. The brand has been increasing its market share in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, especially in the low-cost and mid-range segments.
OPPO and vivo held the fourth and fifth positions in the global smartphone market in the third quarter, respectively. OPPO's growth was driven by strong performance in the Southeast Asian market. Meanwhile, vivo achieved success in India and Southeast Asia, while continuing to expand its presence in Africa.
