According to a report from market research firm Counterpoint Research , global smartphone sales in the third quarter grew by 4% compared to the same period last year.

Sales were driven by strong growth in a range of markets including India, the Middle East, Africa, Japan, and several countries in the Asia- Pacific (APAC) region. Meanwhile, markets such as North America and Europe saw declines.
“Demand for high-end devices remains strong. Meanwhile, affordable 5G devices are also gaining traction with users in regions like India, Africa, and APAC,” said Shilpi Jain, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research .
The Japanese market recorded a 15% year-on-year growth thanks to stable demand for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e. Meanwhile, purchasing power in China has slowed down due to inventory liquidation.
In the third quarter, Samsung continued to maintain its leading position with a 19% market share, a 6% increase compared to last year. This growth was mainly driven by the success of the Galaxy A product line.
The recently launched Galaxy Z Fold7 also achieved relatively good market performance thanks to promotional programs and consumer interest in foldable devices.
Apple ranked second with an 18% global market share, a 9% increase year-on-year. Apple also recorded the highest growth among the top 5 smartphone brands in the market.

The newly launched iPhone 17 product line has been warmly received by the market, recording record-high pre-orders. This has helped the company achieve strong growth in Japan, China, Western Europe, and several regions in the Asia- Pacific .
Third place goes to Xiaomi with a 14% market share and a 2% year-on-year growth. The brand has been increasing its market share in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, particularly in the low-cost and mid-range segments.
OPPO and vivo ranked fourth and fifth respectively in the global smartphone market in the third quarter. OPPO's growth was driven by strong performance in the Southeast Asian market. Meanwhile, vivo achieved success in India and Southeast Asia, while continuing to expand its presence into Africa.
