IPv6 Only and Automation Move Forward to the Next Generation Internet

Recently, in Nha Trang city, the VNIX-NOG 2025 Conference took place with the theme Peering 2.0: IPv6 Only and automation towards a breakthrough leap for the next generation Internet, with the content emphasizing on enhancing peering routing connections, promoting the development of the new generation Internet with IPv6-only, automating network management, and being ready for the new generation Internet.

Connectivity platform promotes national Internet infrastructure development

VNIX-NOG 2025 is organized into a series of events including the Training Program on Peering and Ensuring Internet Routing Security in IPv6-only Network Infrastructure and the Main Conference with the theme Peering 2.0: IPv6 Only and Automation for a Breakthrough Leap for the Next Generation Internet.

VNIX-NOG 2025 is a special session, marking the 10th year of the VNIX-NOG event held in Vietnam, annually since 2016. Attendees include units under the Ministry of Science and Technology , representatives of leaders and experts of VNIX connection members, organizations, IP/ASN member enterprises in Vietnam, foreign experts from organizations, world Internet associations (APNIC, APIX), IX organizations, large enterprises in the region and the world (TREX, Akamai, AWS, ..).

The National Internet Exchange - VNIX was established by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) in 2003 with the mission of ensuring the security of Vietnam's Internet, connecting Internet service providers, and promoting the development of Vietnam's Internet.

VNIX plays an important role in the formation of the Vietnamese Internet. Over the years, VNIX has expanded IPv6 connectivity to 100% of its members, becoming one of the IX points with the highest IPv6 rate in the region. VNIX currently connects more than 50 members at 5 connection points (including 3 main points and 02 PoPs located at IDCs of enterprises); including ISPs, content enterprises and large data centers, helping to increase domestic traffic exchange, reduce access latency and optimize international costs. At the same time, VNNIC deploys routing automation, deploys RPKI routing authentication on VNIX and monitors connection quality in real time, contributing to building a safe, reliable and sustainable Internet infrastructure, ready for the IPv6-Only phase, industrial Internet and smart cities of Vietnam.

Entering a new phase of digital transformation of the country, VNIX will continue to expand, attracting more participation from content businesses, educational institutions, finance and government agencies. "Peering 2.0" - a new generation of connection VNIX is driven by IPv6 Only and automation, helping network systems not only connect better but also operate intelligently, flexibly and ready for the next generation Internet.

10 years of pioneering connectivity, ready for the new generation of Internet era

The VNIX – NOG 2025 Conference marks the 10th year of VNNIC organization - a memorable milestone in the journey of building a network operations community in Vietnam. After 10 years of organization, VNIX-NOG is not only a place to connect VNIX members but also an annual technical forum gathering a team of experts, network engineers and technology enterprises at home and abroad to share experiences, towards a safe, sustainable and open Internet.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Le Ngoc Duc, Chairman of the VNNIC Management Board, proudly shared that 10 years since the first VNIX-NOG Conference was held, up to now, VNIX-NOG has gathered good experts from the Vietnamese Internet community, becoming an important forum on technology and network operations, contributing to promoting the development of national digital infrastructure.

In the context of IPv4 exhaustion and the global Internet is strongly shifting to a new generation of addresses, with the theme Peering 2.0: IPv6 Only and automation towards a breakthrough leap for the next generation Internet, the VNIX-NOG 2025 conference focuses on sharing technologies and solutions for comprehensive transition to IPv6-Only - a network model that only uses IPv6, completely eliminating dependence on IPv4.

IPv6-Only is the necessary foundation for the formation of the new generation Internet, and only IPv6 can solve the problem of super-large capacity and super-fast speed, serving fields such as IoT, AI, cloud computing, and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Vietnam is considered one of the pioneering countries in Asia in preparing technology, standards, and policies for this stage.

Along with IPv6-Only, the topic of Network Automation was also emphasized as an innovation pillar. Experts presented advanced solutions such as automatic Peering configuration, RPKI and Route Origin Validation (ROV) applications in routing security, network management using APIs, as well as automatic detection and troubleshooting tools... Automation solutions help shorten operation time, reduce human errors and increase system reliability, paving the way for larger-scale, more flexible and secure network operations.

VNIX-NOG 2025 continues to be an important bridge between the Vietnamese and international technical communities. The presence of international experts such as Mr. Aleksi Suhonen (TREX, Finland), Mr. Kams Sze Yeung (Akamai Technologies) and Mr. Vincent "Achie" Atienza (Globe Telecom) ... shows the interest of the regional community in the development of the Internet in Vietnam. At the discussion session, the speakers commented that Vietnam is one of the bright spots in the ASEAN region in deploying IPv6, DNSSEC, RPKI and operating an independent, transparent and secure Internet infrastructure.

Entering the next phase, to prepare for the new era of the Internet, VNIX will continue to be researched and developed by VNNIC with modern technical infrastructure, deploying advanced technologies such as IPv6; RPKI to ensure routing security; promoting the application of AI and Automation in network operation, monitoring and troubleshooting, minimizing DDoS attacks, ... in parallel, gradually exploiting and analyzing operational data, improving the quality of member support, and providing statistics, assessments and forecasts on the development of the Internet in Vietnam.

IPv6-Only and automation are not only technical advances, but also strategic turning points for Vietnam to master digital infrastructure, ensure sovereignty and be ready for the era of smart Internet.

VNIX-NOG 2025 once again affirms Vietnam's pioneering role in regional Internet development, while opening a solid leap towards the new generation of Internet - faster, safer and more sustainable.

VNIX-NOG is the National Internet Exchange (VNIX) Membership Conference organized annually by VNNIC since 2016 following the international NOG (Network Operators Group) model, expanding to Vietnamese network operation experts and engineers, with the goal of enhancing information and experience sharing in the process of connecting, operating networks and applying new Internet technologies to promote domestic Internet peering connections.

Workshop Peering and ensuring Internet routing security in IPv6-only network infrastructure focuses on content about routing technologies and solutions, promoting the development of the new generation Internet with IPv6-only, and automating network management.

VNNIC and international experts have researched, evaluated, and built a roadmap for transitioning to IPv6 only, with the goal of stopping the use of IPv4 by 2030 and completely switching to IPv6 (IPv6 only), helping the Internet community immediately start converting to IPv6 only for access networks at agencies and organizations, towards a modern, smart Internet, ready for the new phase of the Internet.
