In a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN Security Council, Mr. Iravani said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns in the strongest terms these cowardly acts of aggression. Given the grave consequences for regional and international peace and security, Iran calls on the Security Council to unequivocally condemn Israel's actions in the strongest possible terms. Furthermore, Iran calls on the Security Council to convene an emergency meeting to address Israel's terrorist aggression and the continued atrocities committed by the Israeli belligerent regime in Lebanon and across the region."

"Tehran urges the Security Council to take immediate and decisive action to stop Israel's ongoing aggression and prevent the region from being dragged into a full-scale war. Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent rights under international law to take all measures to protect its vital national and security interests," the Iranian diplomat stressed.

According to Reuters on September 28, the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned Israel's killing of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in the Lebanese capital Beirut, calling it "another political assassination."

“This action has serious consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East. The Israeli side could not have failed to recognize this danger, but took the step of killing Lebanese citizens, which almost certainly caused a new outbreak of violence. Therefore, it bears full responsibility for the subsequent escalation,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In its statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry also called on Israel to immediately end hostilities in Lebanon.

On the US side, NBC television channel reported that the country's leaders are considering increasing military forces in the Middle East after Israel assassinated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

NBC quoted US officials as saying that the US military presented various options to increase the strength of troops and weapons in the region to the head of the Pentagon Lloyd Austin. The US defense secretary has contacted President Joe Biden about this issue. So far, no final decision has been made.

The Pentagon is considering boosting air defenses for US forces in the region. There are currently about 40,000 US troops deployed in the Middle East.

Earlier, the Hezbollah movement confirmed the death of its supreme leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut.
