The “targeted raid” appears to be the most significant ground attack yet on the Palestinian enclave as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) prepares for a full-scale offensive to eliminate Hamas forces after Hamas launched a series of attacks on southern Israel on October 7, according to The Times of Israel .

According to the IDF, the new raid, led by the Givati Infantry Brigade and the 162nd Armored Division, is part of the preparation of the border area for the "next phase of the war," referring to the full-scale ground offensive that Israel has announced.

The IDF said Israeli troops attacked “numerous terrorist elements”, infrastructure and anti-tank guided missile launch sites, and “worked to prepare the battlefield”. The IDF added that Israeli troops returned to their own territory after the raid.

IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said the operation lasted several hours and no soldiers were injured. "Through the raid, we eliminated elements, neutralized threats, defused explosives, neutralized ambushes to facilitate the next stages of the battle for the ground forces," Hagari added.

Earlier in the day, the IDF announced that Israeli warplanes had struck more than 250 Hamas sites in the Gaza Strip in 24 hours. Those sites included Hamas infrastructure, command centers, tunnels and rocket launchers, according to The Times of Israel .

Hamas has not made any latest statement.

UN warns 'no safe place in Gaza'

The United Nations has warned that "nowhere is safe" in Gaza, as Israel steps up air strikes in preparation for a large-scale ground offensive, according to The Times of Israel today, October 26.

Also according to The Times of Israel today, Israeli war cabinet member, Minister Benny Gantz, said that Israel will eventually make its own decision on war plans, after it was reported that Israel had given in to US pressure to delay a planned large-scale ground attack on Gaza.

According to The Wall Street Journal on October 25, US officials have so far convinced Israel to delay the start of the Gaza landing campaign until US air defense systems can be deployed in the area, as early as this weekend.

What did the Palestinian foreign minister say about Israel's attack?

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki today called Israel's attack in Gaza a "war of revenge" and called for a ceasefire in the conflict, according to AFP.

"This time the war that Israel is waging is very different. This time… it is a war of revenge. First we need to stop this one-sided aggression and then we need to call for a ceasefire," al-Maliki said in The Hague, Netherlands.

In addition, European Union (EU) leaders will call for the establishment of humanitarian corridors and a halt to fighting in the Hamas-Israel conflict to provide urgently needed aid to the people of Gaza, according to Reuters today citing the final draft of a text to be adopted at the EU summit in Brussels (Belgium) today.

Health authorities in Hamas-run Gaza said today that Israeli air strikes have killed more than 7,000 people. This number marks the highest death toll from fighting in Gaza since 2005, according to AFP.

Israel said the October 7 attack by Hamas left at least 1,400 people dead and more than 220 hostages.

Israel airstrikes southern Lebanon?

Lebanese state media reported that Israel carried out airstrikes and drone attacks in southern Lebanon early this morning, October 26, near the tense border between the two countries, according to AP.

Lebanon's NNA news agency reported no casualties but airstrikes caused fires in fields near the border town of Aita al Shaab.

Hezbollah forces in Lebanon and Israel have been fighting since October 8, a day after the Hamas-Israel conflict erupted, and the fighting has been largely limited to a few border towns.

Hezbollah has warned Israel of a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip and Israel has vowed to retaliate if the Iran-backed force escalates the Hamas-Israel conflict.
