According to NBC News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the country's lawmakers on May 28 that Hamas leader Mohammad Sinwar in Gaza had been eliminated.

Mohammad Sinwar, one of Israel's most wanted men, took over as leader of Hamas in October 2024 after his brother, the late leader Yahya Sinwar, was assassinated in southern Gaza.
Tel Aviv accuses Yahya Sinwar of planning Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Prime Minister Netanyahu's statement came after the Israeli military struck dozens of targets across the Gaza Strip in the past 48 hours, including anti-tank missile sites and weapons storage facilities.
Meanwhile, health authorities in the Hamas-controlled enclave said at least one person was killed and 48 others were wounded in a shooting at a crowd that had stormed a new aid distribution site set up by Israel in Gaza. The perpetrators were not immediately known.
Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed to continue fighting in Gaza until Hamas is defeated and the remaining 58 hostages taken in the October 7, 2023 attack are returned.
Nearly 54,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children, have died in Gaza since the conflict began, according to Palestinian health officials.
