Opening Ceremony of the 2nd Phan Thiet Open Chess Tournament – ​​Spring 2024 (Year of the Dragon)

On the morning of January 28th, the Phan Thiet Open Chess Tournament celebrating the Year of the Dragon – 2024 took place enthusiastically at the Ky Dao Phan Thiet cafe. Nearly 30 chess players from chess clubs in Phan Thiet, Bac Binh, and Ham Thuan Nam participated in this year's tournament.

Mr. Huynh Van Duc, Head of the Organizing Committee, said: “ The expanded 2024 Spring Chess Tournament aims to create connections, exchanges, a healthy playground, and opportunities for players passionate about the game of Chess to learn and gain experience . In the future, we also want to partner with many other local sports tournaments to build and develop the movement . ”

The Chess tournament is played using the Swiss system with 7 rounds, each round lasting 15 minutes per player. Points are calculated as follows: Win 1 point, draw 0.5 points, loss 0 points . After 7 rounds, points are calculated to determine the players with the higher scores to advance to the next round . If there is a tie, the tie is ruled by a progressive tiebreaker.

Recently, chess tournaments have been organized in many localities to build and develop the movement. This will facilitate the establishment of a Chess Federation in the province, to select players who will have the opportunity to participate in competitions in localities within and outside the province.
