Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong affirmed that the festival brings together the quintessence of Tuong and folk opera arts and is an opportunity to look back on the creative and performing journey of art units across the country over the past time.
According to the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Tuong and Folk Opera are traditional art forms that carry unique values of Vietnamese culture. However, in the face of rapid changes in social life, traditional arts are facing many difficulties: the performance market is shrinking, audiences are scattered, young human resources are lacking, while the number of veteran artists is decreasing; the work of passing on the profession is still limited, attracting young audiences faces many challenges. These are issues that require more coordinated participation from management agencies, art units and the artists themselves.

The Party's resolutions, such as Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW, Conclusion No. 76-KL/TW, Conclusion No. 156-KL/TW and Conclusion No. 84-KL/TW of the Politburo , have clearly identified the requirements for innovation, improving the quality of creativity, combining preservation with promotion of traditional artistic values, perfecting policy mechanisms and creating favorable conditions for the development of artists. These are important orientations for us to continue to unleash the potential of Tuong and Folk Opera in the new period. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also continues to consider Tuong and Folk Opera as key areas that need priority.
“Preserving traditional art does not mean keeping it as it is, but needs to be placed in the process of adaptation, development and dissemination of values. The strategy for developing Vietnamese culture to 2030 also clearly identifies priority tasks: preserving traditional art, developing human resources and innovating financial mechanisms, especially in ordering and supporting works of art,” Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized.

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism also said that this year's festival is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the current state of creation, staging and performance; assess the capacity of the artists; their ability to approach contemporary life; as well as identify innovative efforts in creation. These results will be an important basis for formulating policies to support traditional theatrical forms.
The 2025 National Tuong and Folk Opera Festival took place at Kim Ma Theater, Vietnam National Traditional Theater, Hanoi from November 17 to 26, bringing together nearly 1,000 artists and actors from 10 art units nationwide with 14 plays.

The organizers said that the plays participating in the festival were elaborately staged, deeply reflecting social life, praising the traditional history, homeland, country, and people of Vietnam, honoring moral and humanistic values and aspirations for goodness. The festival is a great festival of traditional Vietnamese theatrical art, a place where the talents, passions and creative aspirations of artists from all over the country converge. This is not only an occasion to honor national cultural values, but also contributes to preserving, spreading and promoting the quintessence of Tuong and Folk Opera art, bringing traditional theater closer to today's public.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will award Excellence Awards to plays and Excellence Awards to performing artists; Gold Medals and Silver Medals to plays and artists; Excellence Awards to creative elements such as: Scriptwriters, Directors, Musicians, and Designers.
