According to the Ministry of Transport , recently, a number of Vietnamese airlines have been restructuring, returning aircraft, and cutting down on some flight routes.
In addition, according to the announcement of engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney (PW), a number of aircraft of airlines had to be recalled for inspection and in-depth repair of PW1100 engines, affecting domestic and international flights.
In order to minimize the impact on passengers, the Ministry of Transport requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to direct airlines to urgently research, develop exploitation plans, and add aircraft to ensure and maintain the transport force, especially during the April 30 and May 1 holidays and the upcoming summer peak period.
At the same time, implement solutions to limit delays and cancellations, improve service quality, and strictly implement transportation regulations and rules related to the obligations of carriers.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam needs to support and encourage airlines to increase their operating capacity, meet people's travel needs and propose solutions to overcome difficulties (if any).
At the same time, strengthen inspection of transportation activities, passenger services, ticket sales, price declaration, price posting, and public disclosure of information on airline ticket prices, and prevent illegal price increases. We must promptly direct, rectify, and handle violations (if any).
In addition, the organization closely monitors aviation security and safety and directs and coordinates with airlines to inform the press about the situation of air transport operations so that people and passengers can grasp it promptly.
Previously, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said it had focused on reviewing relevant plans and policies and organizing the implementation of measures to adapt to the actual situation.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested Vietnamese airlines to proactively plan their operations and have contingency plans to supplement the number of aircraft that are in short supply due to flight suspension (plans for receiving aircraft, wet leasing of aircraft during peak periods of Lunar New Year, peak summer, optimal calculation of engine operation plans due, etc.).
At the beginning of 2023, domestic airlines owned more than 220 aircraft, but now only about 170 aircraft remain. Most recently, Pacific Airlines - a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines - returned the entire fleet of aircraft to clear the debt of 220 million USD from foreign partners.
