Route DH5, the main traffic route connecting Tu Nhu village with the commune center, suffered serious landslides along a length of about 300m, mainly concentrated from the Treo bridge to the village center, with 7 major landslides, the volume of rock and soil deposited was estimated at about 25,000m3. Many rocks with a diameter of 2-3m rolled down and blocked the road, paralyzing traffic, making it difficult to supply necessities and pick up and drop off students.
Que Phuoc Commune has mobilized 2 large excavators, 1 loader along with militia, youth union members and local people to repair the situation. Up to now, the road from Tu Nhu to Treo bridge has been temporarily cleared, but the mud is still thick, the road surface is slippery, and there is a potential risk of unsafety. The commune government continues to mobilize local people to clean up and level the mud to make it easier for students and local people to travel.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Que Phuoc Commune People's Committee, said that not only DH5 route, the flood at the end of October also caused damage on many other routes. The section from Xuan Hoa to Nong Son (National Highway 14H) was eroded about 100m, with an estimated volume of 500m3 of earth and rock; the section from Tu Trung village to Phu Gia 2 village (DH1 route) was eroded more than 70m, with more than 3,000m3 of silting up, completely cutting off traffic. In addition, many roads and drainage culverts were silted up about 15km, with a volume of more than 50,000m3 of earth and rock.
When the water receded, the commune mobilized motor vehicles to temporarily clear the road to ensure initial traffic. Particularly in Thach Bich village, the flood caused landslides, washing away about 30m of concrete road.
In addition to the immediate solutions, Que Phuoc commune is reviewing the entire affected traffic system to propose to superiors for long-term investment support, reinforcing landslide points, planting trees to block the ground, and building solid drainage ditches to limit landslide recurrence.
In particular, the locality proposed to soon upgrade and solidify route DH5, the main traffic route from Tu Nhu village to the commune center. In the context of complicated weather conditions, urgent landslide remediation and long-term orientation in traffic infrastructure investment are urgent requirements. This is not only a solution to ensure safety for people but also contributes to stabilizing life and promoting socio -economic development in the highlands of Que Phuoc commune.
