( Bqp.vn ) – On the morning of September 9, Phong Chau bridge connecting Tam Nong district and Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province suddenly collapsed, causing serious damage to people and vehicles while traveling across the bridge.
Lieutenant General Pham Hong Chuong, Commander of Military Region 2, directed forces to deploy search and rescue operations to overcome the consequences of the bridge collapse.
According to a quick report from local leaders, at around 9:40 a.m. on September 9, 2024, a serious accident occurred on the Red River, collapsing 2 spans of Phong Chau Bridge in Van Xuan Commune, Tam Nong District. Initial determination showed that there was 1 passenger car, a number of 4-seat cars and many people traveling by motorbike on the bridge. The specific number of people and vehicles cannot be counted yet. Currently, the forces are urgently focusing on search and rescue, the initial cause was determined to be due to high water and strong currents causing the bridge to collapse.
Military Region 2 deployed forces and equipment to search and rescue victims of the bridge collapse.
Immediately after receiving the news, the Head of Military Region 2 Command urgently went to the scene and directed forces to participate in overcoming the consequences. Accordingly, hundreds of officers and soldiers of Brigade 543; Division 316 and Phu Tho Provincial Military Command were mobilized with equipment, boats, and buoys to participate in the search and rescue.
