Inauguration of the first semiconductor manufacturing project in the North

Attending the inauguration ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam Choi YoungSam, representatives of Bac Giang province's leaders and representatives of Vietnamese and Korean enterprises.

Hana Micron Vina (part of Hana Micron Group) is an enterprise that manufactures and processes integrated circuit boards used for mobile phones and other smart electronic products.

Mr. Choi ChangHo - Chairman of Hana Micron Group said that since 2019, the company has researched, surveyed and decided to invest in the project "Hana Micron Vina Factory" in Van Trung Industrial Park (Viet Yen District, Bac Giang) with the main production field being semiconductor packaging and testing. The total scale of the project is 66,000m2.

In 2022, the company will continue to expand its investment and production activities; adjusting the total project investment capital to nearly 600 million USD. Since then, it has become one of the FDI projects with the largest investment capital/ha (about 90 million USD/ha) in Bac Giang province today. At the same time, the company has completed and put factory 1 into production.

On September 16, 2023, Hana Micron Vina inaugurated and put into operation factory 2, marking an important milestone of the project.

By 2025, Hana Micron Vina plans to increase total investment to more than 1 billion USD, expected revenue to reach 800 million USD and create jobs for more than 4,000 workers.

“Hana Micron Vina in Vietnam will become the leading manufacturing base in Hana Micron’s global business operations. The workforce recruited in Vietnam will account for 70% of the total workforce. Hana Micron Vina will develop a new semiconductor industry ecosystem in Vietnam, contributing to diversifying the types of innovative technologies and techniques that Vietnam is pursuing,” Mr. Choi ChangHo further affirmed.

At the ceremony, Mr. Le Anh Duong - Chairman of Bac Giang Provincial People's Committee assessed that Hana Micron Vina's project is of great significance to the province's socio-economic development. Accordingly, this is the first semiconductor manufacturing project in the North. The effective implementation of the project will be the foundation for the development orientation of the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in the province in particular and the North in general. At the same time, this is an opportunity for Bac Giang to attract more high-tech projects in line with the province's development orientation in the coming time.

To date, there have been over 27 countries and territories with enterprises investing in Bac Giang province. Of which, Korea is the country ranked first in terms of the number of projects and second in terms of total registered investment capital in the province. Korean enterprises account for about 25% of the total industrial production value of the FDI sector in the whole province; 30% of import and export value; 21.3% of the budget contribution; accounting for 25.3% of the number of employees in enterprises.

In recent years, Bac Giang province has continuously made breakthroughs, its economic growth has always been among the top provinces in the country and it is an attractive investment destination for many foreign enterprises. In the first 7 months of 2023, Bac Giang province attracted 1.58 billion USD in investment capital, an increase of 1.53 times over the same period; including 55 FDI projects, with registered capital of 1.23 billion USD.
