In response to the act of first aid given to a newborn baby who choked on milk by nurse Nguyen Thi Thao in a taxi, Hai Phong city authorities at all levels organized a ceremony to commend and encourage the female nurse.
Late this morning (July 15), Hai Phong City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau and representatives of Hai Phong City leaders, the Department of Health , and Kien An District visited, encouraged, praised, and rewarded nurse Nguyen Thi Thao - who provided emergency care to a foreign hospital right in a taxi, saving a newborn baby who choked on milk and had stopped breathing.

Hai Phong City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau and City Vice Chairman Le Khac Nam commended and rewarded nurse Thao.
At the commendation ceremony, Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Tien Chau acknowledged the life-saving spirit of nurse Nguyen Thi Thao. Mr. Chau emphasized: "The work of nurse Thao in rescuing a newborn baby in a taxi is very admirable. Not only is it an act from the heart of a mother, the life-saving spirit of nurse Thao also demonstrates the medical ethics of a medical worker, the noble responsibility of a physician, very proud, needs to be replicated and shine. Through that, it helps each of us love life more, love the work we are doing."
Expressing her emotions when receiving the love and encouragement from the city leaders, the health sector, Kien An district and the Children's Hospital, nurse Thao shared: "When I saw the baby turning purple and stopping breathing because of choking on milk..., I couldn't think much, just quickly said that I worked at the children's hospital, let me save the baby. The family trusted and cooperated and gave me the baby. I put the baby right in the back seat of the taxi and did my best to perform CPR, suction the choking milk, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation... to save the baby.
About 3 minutes later, a taxi took us to Thuy Nguyen General Hospital. I hurriedly carried the baby to the emergency room and informed the on-duty team about the baby's condition. I also did not forget to introduce myself as a nurse in the Respiratory Department of the Children's Hospital. Therefore, I was allowed to join the emergency. After a while of active emergency treatment, seeing no signs, everyone predicted that the baby's condition would be very difficult to save. But I still encouraged my colleagues, that the heart of a newborn baby is very resilient, to continue emergency treatment, who knows, there might be a chance. And the miracle happened, I touched the baby's femoral artery and felt a pulse, immediately informed my colleagues there "the patient's pulse has returned, although it is still weak". That same night, the baby was transferred to the Children's Hospital for further emergency treatment and more intensive treatment".

Nurse Thao at the conference to commend and reward her actions in saving a newborn baby who stopped breathing outside the hospital.

Nurse Thao recalls the moment she saved a newborn baby who stopped breathing in a taxi.

Nurse Thao is always proud of the job she has chosen and is doing.
According to nurse Thao, her actions came from the heart of a mother, the responsibility and medical ethics of a medical professional. Thanks to the knowledge learned at Hai Phong Medical College, the professional skills trained and cultivated from the past 13 years of working in the Neonatal and Respiratory departments of Hai Phong Children's Hospital, she was able to perform the emergency treatment for the baby.
"Normally, when I come home from work, I rarely go out, but that night, my daughter kept crying and wanting to go out. And at around 9 pm, on the way home, the whole family passed through village 6, Kien Bai commune, Thuy Nguyen district, and saw a family member holding a baby who had choked on milk, stopped breathing, and had a heart attack, in a very panic. Anyone in this situation would not be able to bear to stand by and watch, especially those in the medical profession like us. And fortunately, after the efforts of the doctors and nurses of the two hospitals (Thuy Nguyen and Children's Hospital), the baby was saved and is recovering well," nurse Thao shared.
According to nurse Thao, when the newborn was transferred to the Children's Hospital, she suddenly remembered that her husband and child were waiting for her. Because she did not have time to bring her phone, she had to ask a colleague at Thuy Nguyen Hospital to contact her husband. Luckily, her husband still took the child by motorbike and followed the taxi to the hospital to wait for his wife.

Touched by the benefactor who saved his child from death, Mr. Hoang Minh T. - the patient's father expressed: "Up to now, we are still not over the shock of what just happened to our family. At the most dangerous, desperate, and confused moment, the family met nurse Thao who passed by and gave her non-stop emergency care, along with colleagues from Thuy Nguyen Hospital, trying to save the child. My family is very grateful to the doctors, nurses and team on duty that day at Hai Phong Children's Hospital who rescued my child from the critical stage. Especially, we are grateful to nurse Thao, she is like a second mother who gave birth to the child again."
