When will the entire highway from Lang Son to Ca Mau be connected?

Significantly reduce travel time

Expressways are only for cars, pedestrians, non-motorized vehicles, motorbikes, motorcycles and tractors; special-purpose motorbikes with a design speed of less than 70 km/h are not allowed on the expressway. This makes traffic more convenient and safer.

The Mai Son - National Highway 45 expressway helps extend the expressway from Hanoi to the South to Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa. Vehicles are allowed to travel on the expressway at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. The opening of this project will significantly reduce the travel time from Hanoi to Thanh Hoa, from 3 hours to only about 2 hours as before.

According to the Mai Son-National Highway 45 Project Management Board (Thang Long Project Management Board - Ministry of Transport ), the intersections on the route are put into operation synchronously, including 4 intersections that were put into operation at the same time of inauguration, including Mai Son (Km274+393), Gia Mieu (Km295+800), Ha Linh (Km306), Dong Xuan (Km327+142).

In addition, there are 3 intersections on the route, of which, Dong Giao intersection (Km283+800) is waiting for a connecting road to the East-West Highway ( Ninh Binh province); Thieu Giang intersection (Km315+180) is waiting for a connecting road, expected to be completed at the end of 2024 and Dong Thang intersection (Km335+400) is a newly added intersection, expected to be completed at the end of 2023.

In addition, regarding traffic safety, this highway has added emergency stopping locations, increasing from the original 13 locations to 25 locations, increasing the length from 50m to 170m, and the width to 3.25m, helping vehicles to circulate more safely, with a location for vehicles having problems to stop and park, avoiding affecting other vehicles.

The Ministry of Transport said that it is assigning investors of the sections of the North-South Expressway in the Eastern phase with a 4-lane cross-section to review and evaluate the study to increase the operating speed to 90km/h and will adjust the operating speed when conditions permit.

Promote rapid and sustainable economic development

With the addition of two more expressway projects put into operation, the total number of kilometers of the North-South expressway has increased to 784km compared to the period before 2020, which was 458km. The total length of expressways nationwide is currently 1,580km, of which 416km has been built in the last 3 years alone. Assessing the policy of developing expressways, Dr. Le Xuan Nghia, member of the National Financial and Monetary Policy Advisory Council, said that, looking from the lessons of many countries such as Korea, it can be seen that investing in expressways contributes to rapid and sustainable economic development, and the policy of developing expressways is very correct and very accurate.

The Mai Son - National Highway 45 and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressways put into operation are expected to create a driving force to promote socio-economic development for localities where the routes pass through as well as neighboring areas and the whole country. The extended North-South Expressway helps facilitate and speed up trade between localities, contributing to the development of industrial parks, services, tourism, reducing traffic congestion and accidents on National Highway 1.

In addition, modern, synchronous and convenient transport infrastructure is one of the factors that increase the ability to attract investment. From there, it creates conditions to better care for people's lives, improve income and quality of life.

By 2025, the expressway from Lang Son to Ca Mau will be connected.

Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho said that the ministry is directing units to make efforts to implement. By May 19, 2023, the 101km Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet section and the 49km Nha Trang - Cam Lam section will be inaugurated . Then, by the end of 2023, 4 more sections with a total length of 133km will be inaugurated, including: National Highway 45 - Nghi Son (43km), Nghi Son - Dien Chau (50km), My Thuan 2 Bridge (7km), My Thuan - Can Tho (23km).

By 2024, 2 sections with a total length of 129km will be completed (Dien Chau - Bai Vot 50km long, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao 79km long). Next, by 2025, 12 component projects of the North - South expressway phase 2021 - 2025 and some other sections will be basically completed to open the entire expressway from Lang Son to Ca Mau.

The Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet section project is striving to complete the final items to prepare for operation. According to the Ministry of Transport, during the implementation process, although the Government and the Prime Minister have strongly directed ministries, branches and localities to focus on removing obstacles to speed up the construction progress; the contractors have made great efforts, determination and determination to mobilize all resources, organize the implementation of 3 shifts, 4 teams, but this project has only completed items on the main route.

The project's interchanges and overpasses cannot be fully completed because the new materials will be dismantled and re-exploited in early April 2023. There are still some households that have not received compensation and have not yet handed over the site. The project management board is continuing to direct the contractor to complete the construction, determined to bring the project to the finish line as required.
