Reprimand for male student who was disrespectful to veterans while watching the April 30 parade

TPO - The Student Reward and Discipline Council of Van Lang University held a meeting and determined the form of reprimand and student education for male student NNG, who caused a stir in public opinion when he was considered to have behaved disrespectfully towards veterans while waiting to watch the parade and march at the recent April 30th anniversary celebration.

On May 9, Van Lang University issued an official announcement regarding the case of student NNG (course 29, Chinese Language major), who behaved inappropriately towards veterans during the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification on the evening of April 29, 2025.

According to Van Lang University, although the incident was a personal act of a student that occurred outside the scope of the school's training activities, Van Lang University always identifies the community's responsibility with the family ineducating the learner. The Student Reward and Discipline Council of Van Lang University held a meeting and determined the form of reprimand for this student.

In addition, Van Lang University also requested the Student Support Center, the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​and related units to continue monitoring and educating NNG students and calling on families to join hands in educating learners.

Previously, the school invited NNG students and their families to work directly at the school. Through the students' reports, comprehensive assessment of the students' learning process at the school, and consultation with educational management agencies, based on current regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , the Student Reward and Discipline Council of Van Lang University held a meeting and determined the form of reprimand and education for the students.

As Tien Phong reported, on the evening of April 29, while waiting for the parade to celebrate the “50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country”, a video appeared on social media showing a group of young people shouting at veterans while waiting in line for the ceremony. The clip immediately went viral at a dizzying speed in the early morning of April 30 and attracted more than 2 million views and thousands of shares.

Below the video, many accounts commented indignantly, saying that the group of young people had behaved disrespectfully towards adults and should be condemned. Among them, there was a young man who was said to be a student at Van Lang University.

Immediately after that, Van Lang University received many messages from teachers, parents, students, alumni and readers about the incident where a student of the University acted disrespectfully towards veterans in the above event and started investigating and verifying.

In another development, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) also spoke up when receiving reports that a male student accompanying NNG was a student of the school. Immediately after that, HUTECH conducted a review and inspection, initially confirming that a student of the school appeared in the clip.

The male student also sent apologies, expressing regret for his mistake. On HUTECH’s side, the school will remind and handle the case according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, and at the same time hope that this student will make positive changes in his studies, training, and behavior in the future.
