Ho Chi Minh City: The grading of 10th-grade exams is nearing completion, with approximately 45% of the math exam papers scoring below 5 points.

An official from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training stated on June 17th that the grading of the 10th grade entrance exams would conclude this afternoon. Preliminary observations from the grading committees indicate that the score distribution for Mathematics and Literature has not changed significantly compared to last year. However, the number of perfect scores (10 points) in English has slightly increased. The number of high-scoring papers (8 or higher) in English is also the highest among the three core subjects.

According to this source, the distribution of scores in Mathematics is concentrated in the 5-7 range, with few scores of 8 or higher. Similar to last year, about 45% of the Mathematics exam papers scored below average, mainly from 2.5 to under 5 points, with few candidates scoring 1 point.

In Literature, officials from the Department of Education stated that the highest score recorded so far is 9.25, but this is not common; scores of 6 and 7 are prevalent. Teachers grading the exams also noted that many students chose the wrong essay genre for question 3 of exam 1. Essays that chose the wrong genre, even if well-written and relevant to the topic, only received a maximum of 1.5 out of 4 points.

Last year, about 45% of candidates taking the entrance exam for public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City scored below average in Math and English. Nearly 90% of candidates scored 5 or higher in Literature.

This year, out of nearly 96,000 candidates, approximately 77,300 will be admitted (80%). The results of the 10th grade entrance exam will be announced by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training on June 20th.

Previously, many teachers predicted that the Literature and Math exams would be stable like in previous years, while the English exam would be quite easy. Therefore, the cut-off scores for 10th grade in Ho Chi Minh City this year could be above 25 points for top-tier schools, 16-22 points for mid-tier schools, and above 11 points for schools in the suburbs. This is an increase of 0.5-1 point compared to last year.
