This is a long-term cooperation between the parties to promote communities in the countries to join hands to fight malnutrition in young children.
Iker Casillas, Real Madrid legend and current Deputy Director of the Real Madrid Foundation, is collaborating with Abbott to launch the campaign.

The campaign will provide malnutrition screening tools to local communities and fund anti-malnutrition programs at sports and social schools affiliated with the Real Madrid Foundation.
In particular, the awareness-raising message to combat malnutrition was presented on the matchday of Real Madrid's final match of the 2022-2023 LaLiga season this weekend (June 4, at Real Madrid's stadium).
Through specific activities, Abbott and Real Madrid are highlighting the global issue of malnutrition to promote nutrition education and encourage more children to be screened.
This is the first step in the fight against malnutrition. The partnership has created a custom-designed “Push Back Malnutrition” wristband inspired by the easy-to-use mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) z-score, which helps detect malnutrition in children.
Real Madrid players will wear armbands before kick-off against Athletic Bilbao on June 4 and armbands will also be distributed to fans attending the match at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, to raise awareness of efforts to combat malnutrition.
In addition, the organizers will donate more than 10,000 MUAC z-scores to communities around the world that need this practical tool. This is a bicep measurement tool for young children, helping to detect malnutrition early and accurately.
"Run to fight malnutrition"
The organizers said they will hold the first "Run to Fight Malnutrition" with distances of 5 km and 10 km at Real Madrid's training facilities in Madrid on Saturday, June 3, to raise awareness about malnutrition.
All profits from the race will be used to fund malnutrition education and screening at Real Madrid Foundation sports and social schools worldwide. The organizers have also launched BeatMalnutrition.com to provide important information on childhood malnutrition as well as information about the “Beat Malnutrition” campaign.
According to the organizers, it is estimated that 1 in 3 children under 5 years old in the world is malnourished. Malnutrition in young children can be classified as: stunting (height below healthy for age); wasting (weight below healthy for height); overweight (weight above healthy for height).
Malnutrition affects children's future physical development. Obese children are susceptible to chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease in the future.
“Through our partnership with Real Madrid and the Beat Malnutrition campaign, we are empowering children to live healthy lives and helping communities identify malnutrition in children so they can receive the support and resources they need,” said Ann Smith, co-leader of Abbott’s Center for Malnutrition Solutions.
In Vietnam, Abbott has been cooperating to improve nutrition for young children for over 10 years.
