Foreign investors have the largest net buying session in 10 sessions

On May 13, the Vietnamese stock market witnessed a surprising net buying session from foreign investors, with a value of up to VND985 billion, the highest level in the last 10 sessions. This event became a highlight, contributing significantly to the increase of VN-Index, bringing this index close to the 1,300 point mark.

Right from the beginning of the session, VN-Index showed a positive trend after the news that the US and China reached a temporary agreement on tariffs. This momentum helped VN-Index open up nearly 10 points, reaching 1,293 points. However, the tug-of-war between buying and selling forces caused the index to fluctuate between 1,288 - 1,289 points for most of the time. At the ATC session, strong cash flow from foreign investors suddenly appeared, helping VN-Index break out, closing the session at 1,293.43 points, up 10.17 points.

Securities expert Nguyen Thanh Tung commented: “The strong net buying session of foreign investors is a positive signal after a series of consecutive net selling days. This not only reflects the improvement of foreign capital flows but also demonstrates confidence in the market’s ability to recover.”

Not only did the market increase sharply, but its liquidity also improved significantly. During the session, the total trading volume on the HoSE reached 953 million shares, equivalent to VND23,895 billion, 6.1% higher than the previous session and exceeding the average of the last 20 sessions.

The highlight of the trading session was the spread of cash flow into industry groups, especially non-essential consumer goods with an increase of 6.36%, technology (+1.34%) and industry (+1.71%). Penny stocks also attracted attention with a series of codes hitting the ceiling such as API, IDJ, APS and Bamboo Capital group with BCG (+5.48%), BCR (+11.76%), BGE (+10%).

According to data from HoSE, MBB shares led the net buying list with VND348 billion, followed by MWG with VND315 billion and PNJ with VND221 billion. These are all stocks with solid fundamentals, high growth prospects, and strong foreign capital inflows.

Independent securities expert Le Minh analyzed: “The fact that foreign investors are focusing on buying bluechip stocks shows the trend of shifting cash flow into stocks with high stability, suitable for long-term investment goals. This will contribute to strengthening the foundation for sustainable growth of VN-Index in the coming time.”

The market continued to record the second consecutive increase in points this week.

It is impossible not to mention the momentum from the international market when US stocks increased strongly thanks to the temporary agreement on tariffs between the US and China. Specifically, Dow Jones increased by 2.81%, Nasdaq increased by 4.35%, and S&P 500 increased by 3.26%. This created a positive psychological momentum spreading to the Vietnamese market, contributing to promoting the return of foreign capital.

With the second consecutive impressive increase, VN-Index is facing the opportunity to test the psychological resistance level of 1,300 points. If the cash flow from foreign investors continues to be stable and the demand from domestic investors increases, the index is likely to soon conquer this milestone.

Expert Han Huu Hau emphasized: “To maintain the upward trend, the market needs consensus from major industry groups, especially banking and technology groups. The return of foreign investors to net buying is a positive signal, but it is still necessary to monitor international macro factors and fluctuations in domestic interest rates.”

The trading session on May 13 is evidence of the strong recovery of the Vietnamese stock market after unpredictable fluctuations. With the push from foreign investors and strong domestic cash flow, the VN-Index is on track to reach the 1,300 point mark.
