Students not allowed to go to school to protest the construction of a container port

On October 30, information from the People's Committee of Hai Ha commune said that from October 18 to 30, a total of 681 preschool, primary and secondary school students in this commune were absent from school.

Today (October 30) is also the day with the highest number of students absent from school, with 138 students in preschool, primary and secondary schools.

Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Mr. Mai Hung Quang, Vice Chairman of Hai Ha Commune People's Committee, said that local authorities are working with organizations to visit the homes of students who are often absent from school to encourage them to continue going to school.

Previously, Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee also requested Nghi Son Town Party Committee to direct Nghi Son Town People's Committee to deploy to teachers and students of schools in Hai Ha commune to support and agree to the construction of Long Son Container Port No. 3; not to gather in large numbers, not to participate in obstructing the project's construction.

As reported by Thanh Nien Newspaper, since October 17, hundreds of people from Hai Ha commune have gathered at the construction site of Long Son Container Port No. 3 to protest the construction of the port, because they believe that the project will affect the fishing of the people both now and in the future.

Meanwhile, the government and functional agencies of Thanh Hoa province affirmed that the project does not affect people's fishing, nor does it affect people's land or housing, and has completed all legal procedures according to regulations.

As of October 30, dozens of people were still gathering to protest against the contractor dumping materials to level the ground.
