Grading the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi: "There is no such thing as loose or strict grading"

According to the head of Hanoi'seducation sector, this unit has set high preparation requirements for the exam, many people sacrificed their personal work to participate in the exam.

"There were people who took the test but couldn't come home even after their father passed away. There were officials at the exam site who couldn't come home even after their father passed away and had to wait until the end of the exam to come home for the funeral," Mr. Cuong said emotionally.

Commenting on this year's exam, Mr. Pham Quoc Toan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that this year's exam closely followed the structure and format, ensuring the development of competencies according to the program and had classification.

The essay topics are highly open-ended, the questions are close-to-the-point, the materials are outside the textbooks, eliminating the prejudice of "learning by rote", which is a clear picture of the innovation of education and training, shifting from imparting knowledge to developing learners' capacity.

Ms. Lam Kieu Ninh, Dong Da Secondary School, commented that this year was the first time that textbook materials were not used in the literature exam. At first, teachers were very worried, but after the exam ended, many teachers and students commented that they were "happy".

Ms. Nguyen Viet Nga, a literature teacher at Viet Duc High School, said: “Since the beginning of July and August, the team of teachers who created the questions have participated in many training sessions from the Department of Education and Training to the Department of Education and Training related to the exam. I found that the exam questions are suitable for the students' abilities, arranged from easy to difficult, and classify students.

Answering the question of Dan Tri reporter about the grading of literature exam, is there a situation of "loose grading, tight grading", grading based on inspiration?

Ms. Nga said that the grading of the literature exam has specific instructions according to a very clear scale.

Therefore, parents and students do not have to worry about loose or tight marking or expensive or cheap marking. According to the guidelines, if the candidate achieves a certain level of knowledge, he or she will be marked at that level.

A quick report from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that at the end of the 10th grade exam for non-specialized high schools in Hanoi, at 201 exam locations in the area, exam invigilation took place normally.

After 3 exam sessions, the whole city only had 1 candidate who violated the regulations by bringing a phone into the foreign language exam room, no staff violated the regulations. There were 12 candidates who needed assistance with the exam due to health problems and needed medical assistance.

According to some teachers, this year's 10th grade entrance exam was within the required range, with many real-life contexts in line with the 2018 education program.

The entrance exam for grade 10 of non-specialized public high schools for the 2025-2026 school year in the city will take place on June 7-8.

This is the first exam organized under the 2018 general education program with the orientation of assessing learners' abilities and qualities.

With 64% of candidates selected for public high schools, the exam is highly competitive and receives great attention from society.

On the afternoon of June 7, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh signed an Official Dispatch to local units regarding the organization of the 2025 high school graduation exam, 10th grade enrollment, and preschool, 1st grade, and 6th grade enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year.

The Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to carefully review all stages of the work of creating and printing the 10th grade entrance exam questions and the work of printing and copying the 2025 high school graduation exam questions to ensure accuracy and safety.

The units promptly coordinate closely with the Department of Education and Training and report to the City People's Committee.
