The victim of the dog bite was H.Ð.P, born in 2017, residing in Ong Chung hamlet, Dat Moi commune. After the accident, the health sector and local authorities mobilized the victim's family to get antiserum injections. The victim was admitted to Cai Nuoc General Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable health condition, with no abnormalities detected.
As for the dog that bit the person, after being captured, it died just a few hours later. The authorities took samples for testing and destroyed them according to regulations. The test results were positive for rabies, and the People's Committee of Nam Can district decided to declare rabies in Dat Moi commune.
Authorities have vaccinated dogs against rabies and put numbered collars on them in Dat Moi commune.
Doctor Le Chi Nguyen, Director of the District Medical Center, said: "After receiving the news that H.Ð.P was bitten by a dog, the medical sector advised the family to quickly treat P's wound by washing it with soap for 15 minutes, then taking him for a rabies vaccination. Because there were many deep bites, about grade 3, we instructed the family to take him to Cai Nuoc District General Hospital for a rabies serum injection."
Mr. Trinh Thanh Thoang, Vice Chairman of Dat Moi Commune People's Committee, informed: "The Commune People's Committee coordinated with the district's specialized departments and agencies to vaccinate dogs and cats in the area. First, the vaccination was carried out in the epidemic area, Ong Chung hamlet, then expanded to the entire commune to control the rabies epidemic, not allowing it to break out into a large epidemic."
The district is currently implementing measures to contain and suppress the epidemic; focusing on promoting the dissemination of measures to prevent diseases transmitted from animals to humans; ensuring the supply of vaccines and anti-rabies serum for people in localities; vaccinating dogs and cats in threatened areas and buffer zones against rabies. Fully preparing medicines, supplies, and chemicals for timely handling during the epidemic. At the same time, establishing a rapid response team, a mobile team for epidemic prevention and control to conduct epidemiological investigations, identify risk factors for disease transmission, and thoroughly handle the outbreak.
Dr. Le Chi Nguyen added: “We will continue to propagate and instruct the victims’ families to get the full dose of vaccine according to regulations. At the same time, we will coordinate with local authorities to vaccinate dogs and cats against rabies in the area where the rabies outbreak occurred according to regulations.”
To prevent the disease from spreading widely, the district is currently expanding the disease prevention and control work to neighboring areas, namely Nam Can town, Ham Rong commune and Lam Hai commune. To effectively prevent and control rabies, in addition to the drastic participation of local authorities and functional agencies, each person needs to proactively take preventive measures according to recommendations, especially reporting the number of dogs and cats as well as coordinating to fully vaccinate against rabies according to regulations./.
