Don't let technology make the classroom feel 'cold'.

Teachers conduct technology-based and digitally-driven lessons to create enthusiasm for learning through new methods, but they also keep the classroom atmosphere alive with love and care, rather than relying entirely on technology.

Utilize technology but… limit the use of mobile phones.

Without necessarily using a phone, and simply using a QR code printed on paper, Ms. Cao Thi Nguyet, a teacher at Mac Dinh Chi Secondary School (Tan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), has conducted engaging digital history and geography lessons with her students.

To check students' prior knowledge and preparation for the lesson, Ms. Nguyet uses multiple-choice questions with four options. Regardless of the topic, Ms. Nguyet's lessons do not require students to use phones or smart devices. Instead, she gives each student an A4 sheet of paper with a pre-printed QR code representing their name and student number. The four corners of the square on the QR code sheet represent the answer choices A, B, C, and D.

For example, in the practical lesson "Analyzing the Distribution Characteristics of Major Mineral Resources in Vietnam" for class 8A2, Ms. Nguyet used six questions revolving around the general characteristics of Vietnam's mineral resources (studied in the previous lesson) combined with previously learned knowledge about mineral resource classification. Students answered the questions using QR codes via the Wayground application.

After each question is displayed on the screen, students raise the corresponding corner of their screen to indicate their answer. Standing at the podium, Ms. Nguyet uses her internet-connected phone to scan each student's QR code. Immediately, the student's answer is sent to the teacher's device. Students then know whether their choice is correct or incorrect and eagerly prepare for the next questions.

Speaking with a reporter from Thanh Nien newspaper, Ms. Cao Thi Nguyet, a Master's degree holder, stated that applying digital transformation while requiring all students to use smartphones is not optimal. Furthermore, it could create obstacles because not all students have smartphones, or some may have phones but lack internet access. Therefore, teachers must research, update, and innovate to quickly adapt to technological advancements and apply them to teaching and support students, rather than making things difficult for them.

ENHANCE COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS THROUGH DIGITAL PLATFORMS

Ms. Nguyen Song Thanh Thuy, homeroom teacher of class 5/5 at Phu Tho Primary School (Phu Tho Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), is also promoting digital transformation in innovating teaching methods.

Ms. Thanh Thuy uses technology to create digital lectures, organize online learning games, build a digital library (a repository of learning materials), develop self-learning and online collaboration skills, and enhance communication with parents through digital platforms… These methods have proven effective in improving students' learning.

Ms. Thanh Thuy said she used digital tools to insert images, audio, videos , and mind maps into her lessons. As a result, students found it easier to understand, remembered the material longer, and were more interested in the lessons.

At the same time, she also developed a system of interactive quizzes and games directly within the lectures to quickly check students' understanding. These digital lectures were shared online so students could review them multiple times at home.

"I also use platforms to design games that are closely related to the lesson content. This activity helps students review knowledge in a relaxed, stress-free way, developing quick thinking skills. At the same time, the game results are displayed immediately, helping teachers understand the students' level of comprehension. Shy students also become more confident when participating in this interactive digital format," Ms. Thuy said.

During the teaching of lessons applying digital transformation, teachers at Phu Tho Primary School also created a channel to enhance communication with parents through digital platforms, helping to connect the school and families in teaching students.

Ms. Nguyen Song Thanh Thuy shared: "Through applying this method with students in my class, I have seen that the results are that students are more confident, enthusiastic, and proactive in searching for learning materials outside of textbooks. Their skills in using information technology, teamwork, and presentation have improved significantly. On the other hand, the school and families will have a closer relationship in managing students' learning content."

KEEP THE FLAME ALIVE IN THE CLASSROOM TO ENSURE A WARM RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS.

Ms. Cao Thi Nguyet shared that if technology is used correctly, teaching will be much easier, especially in areas such as brainstorming and lesson planning. Technology and artificial intelligence (AI) will become useful tools, providing teachers with a "virtual assistant," suggesting new teaching ideas, assisting in creating worksheets and tests, suggesting learning games, and quickly creating mind maps… saving a lot of time.

However, Ms. Nguyet still emphasizes the need to "keep the flame alive" in the classroom to engage students during actual teaching sessions. Technology and AI can indeed provide information more quickly and accurately through a short command, so if she doesn't adapt her teaching methods, she might lose connection with her students.

From then on, in each lesson, Ms. Nguyet "shows students that technology is a supporting tool, and teachers will shift from knowledge transmitters to designers and guides, leading students' learning in the right direction. Teachers focus on innovating teaching methods through group discussions, debates, and critical thinking... This is something technology cannot do," this teacher shared.

Like Ms. Nguyet, Ms. Thuy also believes that during classroom teaching, teachers need to pay attention to observing students' emotions, attitudes, and psychology to adjust teaching methods accordingly. When students feel the care and understanding of their teachers, the bond between teachers and students will be stronger. Students feel that "their teachers understand them."

No matter how new or exciting technology and AI may be, every teacher understands that they shouldn't overuse technology to the point of making the classroom cold and distant, but rather need to "keep the flame alive" so that the teacher-student relationship remains warm.
