On the afternoon of June 9, at the special national relic of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, the exhibition of the Lotus and Kieu Cultural Space was opened with an impressive design and many highlights that attracted a large number of viewers. Each corner of the exhibition holds the viewer's footsteps with images and works that carry the cultural depth, character and soul of the Vietnamese people - symbols that have been preserved and cherished throughout the history of the nation.
The event was jointly organized by the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature, and Sen House Vietnam Company to honor the humanistic values in the thoughts of the Great Poet Nguyen Du and the Vietnamese cultural identity through the image of the lotus flower. It is quite interesting that this is the opening activity of the Kieu cultural dissemination journey, which is expected to continue to be spread by heritage lovers at home and abroad in the near future.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund and Head of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club, said: "The exhibition introduces 32 works by two calligraphers Doc Dinh and Ngoc Thuy, most of which show unique verses in Nguyen Du's Tale of Kieu, especially verses that directly mention or evoke the image of the lotus flower with subtle metaphorical value."
In addition, the exhibition space also introduces a portrait of the great poet Nguyen Du made from dried lotus leaves placed in a special design, helping viewers visualize the study space of a Confucian scholar, humble yet noble.
At the exhibition, visitors can also admire some unique handicraft works associated with the lotus image as a vivid proof that "lotus culture" has become an indispensable part of the spiritual life of Vietnamese people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam shared that from her love for the flower that carries the soul of Vietnamese culture to her role as a lotus collector, she has organized many exhibitions promoting the beauty of lotus. However, the cultural space "Lotus and Kieu" seemed to come to her by chance, bringing deep emotions.
"Nguyen Du left for posterity an immortal masterpiece. "The Tale of Kieu" . It is not by chance that international leaders visiting Vietnam use The Tale of Kieu as a diplomatic story.
Through this exhibition, I hope to send to viewers, especially young people, a message about the spread of unique values through traditional cultural symbols in the Vietnamese soul. Through many specific activities, the honoring of traditional symbols also shows the desire for the younger generation to preserve the cultural values left by our ancestors," Ms. Tam emphasized.
The passionate collector also expressed that this exhibition is the beginning of a series of journeys to promote Kieu culture, a tour for students or those who love the Tale of Kieu to Nguyen Du's hometown to better understand the cultural values that the Great Poet left behind.
"In particular, The Tale of Kieu has been translated into 22 languages. I hope one day I will be able to bring this exhibition along with the lotus-patterned ao dai to introduce to the public of those countries...".
Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Tru, Chairman of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, shared that the Lotus and Kieu Cultural Space is an initiative of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, directly led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, a collector with the largest lotus collection in the country. With unique perspectives created from the love of traditional culture, the exhibition shows great attraction to the public and heritage lovers, right from the name.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Tru, lotus symbolizes elegance and simplicity, associated with the cultural and spiritual life of the nation. Tale of Kieu is a very famous literary work of the great poet Nguyen Du. Lotus and Kieu combine to illustrate and complement each other, connecting generations, working together to promote Vietnamese cultural heritage.
Within the framework of the event, visitors to the opening exhibition enjoyed a performance of the Ao Dai collection called "Lotus color of Hanoi" by designer Lan Huong.
"The portrait of Kieu is immersed in the pure lotus scent, the connection of love with nature, all things and the intersection of the universe. All of these features are conveyed by me in each Ao Dai, contributing to honoring the graceful beauty of women in general and Kieu in poetry in particular," designer Lan Huong expressed.
The exhibition will run until June 15, 2025. During this time, calligraphers will hold workshops, and young people and visitors can experience drawing lotus and writing Kieu verses.
