The airstrike on Nuseirat, a Palestinian refugee camp built in central Gaza in 1948, killed 27 people (including 10 women and seven children) and wounded 20, according to records at Al-Aqsa Hospital in nearby Deir al-Balah, which received the bodies.
A separate attack on a street in Nuseirat killed five people, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent emergency services. In Deir al-Balah, an attack killed Zahed al-Houli, a senior officer in the Hamas-run police force, and another man.
Palestinians reported more air strikes and heavy fighting in northern Gaza, which has been largely isolated by Israeli forces for months and where the World Food Programme says famine is looming.

On May 19, the Israeli military reported that its aircraft had “hit dozens of terrorist targets” in the past 24 hours. One witness said entire neighborhoods were “destroyed” and that “there are still bodies under the rubble.” The entire east had become a war zone, with Israeli warplanes “attacking anything that moves.”
Palestinian Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal said rescuers had recovered at least 150 bodies, more than half of them women and children, since Israel launched its operation in Jabaliya last week.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue fighting Hamas in Gaza until the Iran-backed Islamist group is defeated and all hostages are released.
However, he has faced fierce opposition and calls to release a post-conflict Gaza governance plan from top ally the United States and now from members of his wartime cabinet, with his main political rival Benny Gantz threatening to leave the government if a post-conflict Gaza governance plan is not in place by June 8.
His departure will leave Prime Minister Netanyahu more dependent on far-right allies who support a full-scale military occupation of Gaza and the rebuilding of Jewish settlements there.
