BHG - Our province has a total forestry land area of over 566,723 hectares, famous for its majestic mountainous terrain and rich ecosystem. Recognizing the important role of forests in environmental protection, economic development and improving people's lives, the province aims to increase forest cover according to the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020-2025 to 60% by 2025. This goal is not only to protect natural resources but also to develop a sustainable economy for the locality.

To achieve this goal, the province has set out sustainable forestry development strategies, focusing on new planting, regeneration and protection of existing forests. In particular, it focuses on planting high-value forestry trees that are suitable for local soil and climate conditions. Strengthening forest management and protection through implementing measures to prevent forest fires and illegal logging, striving to reduce at least 10% of violations in the forestry sector. By 2025, the allocation of forests to households, individuals and communities will reach 40% or more of the total natural forest area, in order to enhance people's responsibility and interests in forest protection and development.

Thanks to efforts and determination, Ha Giang has achieved encouraging results in improving forest cover: Forest cover has increased significantly. If in 2018, the province's forest cover rate reached over 51%, by August 2021 this rate had reached over 58%. By the end of 2024, the forest cover rate will reach 59.3%, equivalent to a forest area of 470,103 hectares.

From 2021 to 2025, the province has planted 14,990.6 hectares of forest after exploitation, reaching 110.5% of the resolution target; in 2024 alone, the whole province will plant 2,791.5 hectares of new forest, an increase of 11.5% over the same period last year, in addition to planting nearly 2,500 scattered trees of all kinds, an increase of 28.9% over the same period. Forest protection work has been strengthened, functional forces have detected and handled 2,698 cases of forestry law violations; carried out 979,729 forest protection cases with the participation of 50,770 households and groups of households; protected and protected 166,894 hectares of forest. In the province, there are no hot spots for illegal exploitation, trading, and transportation of forest products...

However, according to Mr. Dinh Xuan Luong, Deputy Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department: Despite achieving positive results, Ha Giang still faces many challenges in increasing forest cover such as: Complex terrain, limestone mountains occupying most of the area, making afforestation difficult. Pressure from economic development when the need to expand cultivated areas and develop infrastructure can lead to the risk of forest area reduction. To overcome these challenges, the province has stepped up propaganda and raised awareness so that people understand the role of forests in the environment and life, thereby actively participating in forest protection and development. Provide economic support to people through implementing support policies, encouraging people to participate in afforestation, providing seedlings, technical and financial support; building a close monitoring mechanism, strictly handling violations related to forests.

The continuous improvement of forest coverage according to the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress not only contributes to environmental protection and climate change response but also creates a foundation for sustainable economic development and improves people's lives. With the determination of the government and the consensus of the people, the goal of increasing forest coverage to 60% by the end of 2025 is completely achievable, making Ha Giang a bright spot in the work of forest protection and development nationwide.
