According to the report of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Bac Me district, in the first 5 months of the year, there were 6 natural disasters in the district, causing damage to 44 houses; 9.28 hectares of agriculture ; 4 traffic routes and a number of other works... The estimated damage was about 725 million VND. Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of the district assigned members to inspect the damage in communes and towns, mobilized local forces to help people overcome the consequences and stabilize their lives. However, due to the complicated weather, Bac Me district is a remote area of the province, with complex mountainous terrain, many underground water sources... very susceptible to flash floods and landslides when there is heavy rain; people's houses are mainly made of wood and are easily damaged when there are whirlwinds. In the face of the above situation, the District People's Committee and the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Bac Me District have issued documents on disaster prevention and control and directed the People's Committees of communes and towns to establish and consolidate the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue at the commune level in accordance with regulations. Propagate and announce on the media about forecasts and warnings of natural disasters and dangerous weather; mobilize people to reinforce houses and barns, evacuate households at high risk of natural disasters to safe places according to the developed plan; help people harvest crops, rice, and aquatic products early to minimize damage; monitor and proactively implement restrictions or bans on people and vehicles from entering dangerous areas. Regularly inspect irrigation works, dredge canals, and clear water flows; be ready to deploy flood prevention and control plans for projects under construction and key projects; Review residential areas living along rivers, streams, low-lying areas, and areas at risk of landslides to implement evacuation plans for people, ensuring safety for people and property.
Comrade Tran Manh Tuyen, Chairman of the District People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Bac Me district, said: In order to not be passive in the face of natural disasters, Bac Me district has developed a proactive plan, readying forces and means to respond promptly and effectively to incidents, natural disasters and search and rescue; regularly checking and reviewing human resources, materials, means and equipment for disaster prevention and control and search and rescue work; organizing training for forces performing search and rescue tasks; ensuring communication and information to serve the direction and command of response to storms and floods; improving people's skills and awareness in disaster prevention and control and search and rescue work. At the same time, when a natural disaster occurs, evacuate people from dangerous areas, prioritizing vulnerable groups and reviewing the number of evacuees, checking the safety of the evacuation destination; Quickly, fully and accurately collect statistics and assess the damage caused by natural disasters, the need for relief and support, and propose solutions; carry out disinfection and environmental sanitation activities after natural disasters...
Every year, Bac Me district has to face many types of natural disasters such as storms, floods, droughts, landslides... causing great damage to people and property, affecting life, production and socio-economic development. In this situation, proactively taking measures to prevent and control natural disasters and search and rescue is not only the task of authorities at all levels but also the responsibility of individuals, families and communities, contributing to minimizing damage, protecting the safety of life and property; effectively adapting to natural disasters and climate change.
