On the afternoon of April 25, in Thuong Xuan district, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thanh Hoa held a ceremony to announce the decision to upgrade Xuan Lien Nature Reserve to Xuan Lien National Park.

With this decision to upgrade, Xuan Lien National Park officially becomes the 35th national park in the country.

Accordingly, Xuan Lien National Park was established with a total management area of 25,601 hectares in 5 communes and towns including Bat Mot commune, Yen Nhan commune, Luong Son commune, Van Xuan commune and Thuong Xuan town (Thuong Xuan district).

Accordingly, special-use forest land accounts for 23,816 hectares, divided into three main sub-zones: strictly protected sub-zone of 10,869 hectares, ecological restoration sub-zone of 10,393 hectares and service-administrative sub-zone of 2,553 hectares.

In addition, this area also has 912 hectares of production forest land and 873 hectares of semi-flooded land belonging to Cua Dat Lake.

Xuan Lien National Park was established with the function of protecting the integrity of forest ecosystems, conserving biodiversity, biological genetic resources, environmentaleducation and protection, and scientific research.

In particular, this area plays a key role in maintaining and ensuring stable water sources for Cua Dat Lake - an important irrigation project related to national security.

This upgrade not only contributes to enhancing nature conservation but also opens up opportunities for ecotourism development, creating momentum to promote local socio-economy .

Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Giang affirmed: Upgrading to Xuan Lien National Park and establishing Xuan Lien National Park Management Board is an important legal basis, marking the highest difference in the special-use forest classification system compared to the remaining categories.

Thereby, Xuan Lien National Park will have more conditions to attract investment in scientific research, developing ecological tourism values, and landscapes in the period of 2025-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Xuan Lien National Park currently has 1,228 species of higher plants; 1,811 species of wild animals, belonging to 241 families, 46 orders, 4 classes; 56 endangered and rare plant species, of which 35 species are recorded in the Vietnam Red Book in 2007...

This is also the place where many rare tree species are concentrated, especially two large-diameter species of pơmu and samu dau, including two trees over 1,000 years old that have been awarded the title "Vietnam Heritage Trees."

In particular, Xuan Lien National Park is also the place that marks the existence of the Roosevelt muntjac - a species thought to have been extinct for nearly 100 years, and is home to the largest population of white-cheeked gibbons in Vietnam with 64 herds and 182 individuals...

In Xuan Lien National Park, there are also many waterfalls, caves, a large lake of 3,300 hectares located in the middle of the reserve and terraced fields, the ethnic cultural identity of the Thai and Muong people.

These are the potentials for Xuan Lien National Park to develop ecotourism and community tourism in a sustainable direction…/.
