Cai Mep Ha port area will develop based on demand through international transit container goods.
In the Detailed Planning of seaports, ports, wharves, buoys, water areas, and water regions for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, deep-water ports are prioritized for development, including Cai Mep Ha area.
Cai Mep seaport is planned as an international transit gateway port.
According to the orientation, by 2030, Cai Mep port area will have 13 ports (including 30 to 31 wharves) to meet the demand for cargo from 149.9 million tons to 167.3 million tons. Particularly, Cai Mep Ha downstream area will develop based on the demand for international transit container cargo according to the commitment of investors and synchronized with connecting infrastructure.
Vision to 2050, continue to develop new ports to meet the demand for goods with an average growth rate of about 3.5%/year to 3.8%/year.
Of which, Cai Mep Ha port has a planned scale of 17 wharfs. Cai Mep Ha downstream port has a planned scale of 33 wharfs to meet the growing demand for goods.
To meet this development plan, public infrastructure is also invested in for synchronization.
Public maritime infrastructure is planned to develop synchronously with the scale of the port. The plan determines the investment roadmap depending on resources and needs.
In particular, research and invest in building the Vung Tau - Thi Vai route into a two-lane route to receive ships with a capacity of up to 250,000 tons/24,000 TEU, in accordance with the development process of downstream ports.
At the same time, invest in building infrastructure to serve the work of ensuring maritime safety and state management of maritime sectors in seaport areas. In case of mobilizing social resources, investment in maritime routes in accordance with the scale of port planning is allowed.
According to Giao Thong Newspaper's research, recently, many investors have expressed interest in the port construction investment project at Cai Mep Ha such as Cai Mep Port Joint Stock Company Gemadept - Terminal Link, the joint venture of Geleximco Group - SCIC - ITC.
