Health check of 7 rare tigers, raised and rescued in Phong Nha-Ke Bang

(QBĐT) - In order to improve the effectiveness of wildlife rescue work, from May 19-22, the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Management Board (PN-KB National Park) coordinated with the Vietnam Wildlife Conservation Center (FOUR PAWS Viet), the Center for Nature Conservation and Development (CCD) to conduct health checks and periodic vaccinations for 7 rare Indochinese tigers and a number of other wild animals being raised, rescued and preserved at the Wildlife Rescue Area of ​​the PN-KB Wildlife Conservation Facility.

To prepare for the work of checking the health of wild animals and vaccinating tigers to ensure safety, the Management Board of PN-KB National Park has coordinated with relevant units to develop a plan and strict technical procedures. Experienced foreign experts have conducted clinical examinations, health checks, collected blood, urine and feces samples for testing and vaccinated the tigers.

After completing the steps according to the procedure, the tigers will be monitored for symptoms after vaccination. Thereby, experts will make recommendations on the care and nurturing process for each tiger. Currently, 7 rare Indochinese tigers, raised and rescued at PN-KB National Park, weigh from 100-150kg. Through inspection, all tigers have guaranteed health indicators.

Health check-ups and vaccinations for tigers aim to ensure disease prevention as well as improve veterinary expertise for officers and employees of the National Park Wildlife Rescue, Conservation and Development Center; thereby, gradually improving the effectiveness of wildlife rescue activities at PN-KB National Park.

On this occasion, staff of the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms, PN-KB National Park were also trained in some veterinary skills, such as: Anesthesia, anesthesia monitoring, recovery, wound treatment, and some surgical techniques for wild animals.
