This is the first exam under the new 2018 GeneralEducation Program, held earlier than previous years, so schools and candidates are quite worried.
Don't be subjective before important exams
The high school graduation exam is a particularly important exam for 12th grade students, because the results of the exam not only help students achieve their goal of graduating from high school but also serve as a basis for admission to universities and colleges. Therefore, schools and students make every effort to review in the final stages before the exam.
Principal of Xuan Tho High School (Xuan Loc District) Vu Ngoc Cuong said that since the end of April, the school has completed organizing the second semester exam for 12th graders, and is in the process of grading the exams and "finalizing" the high school transcripts for students. In the remaining 2 months, before the exam takes place, the school will give the highest priority to 12th graders to review, because this is the "golden time" for them. Talking about the pressure of the exam, Principal of the school Vu Ngoc Cuong shared: "This is the first time taking the graduation exam according to the new education program, so both teachers and 12th graders feel quite pressured. However, we are turning this pressure into motivation for them to try harder."
Director of Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training HUYNH VAN CHUONG:
Candidates should not be subjective but should not be too pressured.
The 2025 high school graduation exam will be the first to be conducted under the new curriculum, however, the Ministry of Education and Training has made adjustments to minimize pressure on students. Specifically, the number of compulsory subjects and the number of exam sessions will be reduced. Candidates should not be subjective but should not be too pressured before the exam, but should focus on systematically reviewing the basic curriculum of grade 12. Even the differentiated content in the exam questions is still within the textbook curriculum and not outside the curriculum.
Le Ngoc Thu Trang, a 12th grade student at Nguyen Trai High School (Bien Hoa City), said that despite her good academic performance, she still felt pressured before the upcoming high school graduation exam, the first time taking the exam under the new education program. In the past, in addition to regular classes, the school has set aside free review time during the remaining sessions. Teachers have oriented the review to closely follow the new program, and regularly give students exercises based on the sample exam structure. Thu Trang said: "I will try to take advantage of the nearly 2 months left before the official exam takes place to gain both knowledge and test-taking skills."
Relieve stress for students
Facing an important exam with many new points, many teachers are actively relieving pressure for students. Ms. Do Thi Huong, homeroom teacher of grade 12 at Nguyen Binh Khiem High School (Nhon Trach district), said: "This is the first time students take the graduation exam according to the new program, so teachers must be a spiritual support, helping them relieve this pressure. What teachers advise students the most at this time is that they must focus on the goal of passing the graduation exam. Once they have achieved the graduation goal, there will be many other options such as going to university or college."

According to the Department of Education and Training, in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam, the whole province will have more than 35,000 candidates taking the exam, the year with the largest number of candidates ever. Students currently studying in grade 12 will take the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, while candidates who have not, or have graduated from high school from 2024 or earlier will take the exam according to the 2006 General Education Program to continue to graduate, or to be considered for university admission. This is also the last High School Graduation Exam to take both the new and old education programs, and from 2026 onwards, it will only take the new program.
Although the high school graduation exam has many new points, it still aims at 3 purposes: evaluating teaching and learning results, considering high school graduation and considering university admission. Because the exam also has an additional item as a basis for university admission, the exam questions will certainly differentiate between groups of candidates. An experienced teacher at Tran Bien High School (Bien Hoa City) shared that before the graduation exam, students should not be too pressured because the differentiated exam questions are still mainly within the 12th grade curriculum. The most important thing is that students must review closely according to the teacher's direction, avoiding unnecessary pressure.
To prepare 12th graders for the upcoming high school graduation exam, for the first time, the Department of Education and Training will organize a mock exam on May 9 and 10, with 3 exam sessions. The entire mock exam process will be organized the same as the official exam. The mock exam will be organized by the department and will be held throughout the province. By organizing this mock exam, schools will be able to assess students' readiness before the official exam taking place at the end of June, thereby making appropriate adjustments and supporting students to review in the remaining time before the official exam.
