Since my father passed away, I have not received a single penny.
- What is your reaction to the fact that artist Hong Nhung - your aunt filed a lawsuit related to inheritance disputes and the case was accepted by the Court?
On the morning of June 9, the People's Court of Phu Nhuan District called to inform me about the information that Ms. Sau (artist Hong Nhung - PV) was suing me in court. They asked me to submit relevant documents, including: birth certificate, land use right certificate... to resolve the dispute according to regulations. I also went to the court to work according to the correct administrative procedures.
Because I am not familiar with the law, I have asked a lawyer to represent me in the upcoming court sessions. In terms of reason and emotion, I am not wrong and am ready to go to court, just hoping to be cleared of my wrongdoing.
Ms. Hong Loan - daughter of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh.
- According to you, what is the cause of this lawsuit?
It all stemmed from family conflicts. Before that, we argued many times and could not reach an agreement on dividing the property.
When he passed away, my father left behind a house on Doan Thi Diem Street, Phu Nhuan District and a 3,000m2 plot of land in Thu Duc City. After the funeral, we had a family meeting to discuss this matter.
I proposed to sell the land and use the money to divide among the family members to have capital to do business. As for Hong Phuong, I made it clear that I would buy a house under her own name.
But Phuong and Ms. Sau did not agree. They both insisted on having their names on all the assets and requested that if there was any division, only me and the two of them would receive it.
- There is a lot of information that artist Hong Nhung's family was kicked out of the house by you, what is your response?
I feel sad because I am a descendant of the family but I am not respected. From the funeral to the tomb building for my father, my opinion was completely ignored.
Over the past few days, we had not been able to find common ground. When I saw that things could no longer be resolved, I asked Ms. Sau and Hong Phuong to leave the house. Before that, I also advised Ms. Nga - my father's assistant - to move back to the countryside to take care of her elderly parents.
I think simply, if you don't get along, just live separately and wait until you've calmed down and then talk. There's absolutely no way I'm going to fire anyone.
- Before that, you were upset about some individuals calling for donations to build a tomb for the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh. What was the real story?
After the funeral, I was informed that some audiences at home and abroad wanted to donate money to build my father's tomb. I was moved by the news and agreed to accept the donations at that time. The donation period ended on March 25. However, I discovered that the donations were still going on after that.
I saw a problem so I spoke up and asked the audience to stop this. I also asked Hong Phuong to clearly state the donations so that everything would be transparent but I received no response.
In addition, I was also not informed about the fact that Hong Phuong and the media company signed a contract to film Vu Linh's father's funeral. This made me angry because I wanted everything to be clear and did not want anyone to take advantage of my father's image for personal gain.
Ms. Hong Loan has been under a lot of pressure since her father passed away.
- How have you been dealing with malicious rumors lately?
Some people say I want to seize property, that is baseless. If I wanted to seize it, I would not have asked for land to be divided among the people from the beginning.
Some people spread the rumor that my father left me hundreds of gold bars and I took it all. In fact, since my father passed away, I have not received a single penny.
There was originally $13,000 in my father’s safe. After the funeral, I took $5,900 to repair the old car he left behind, buy charity rice and release birds and fish. I still don’t know who has the remaining money. Also, I don’t know exactly what jewelry my father wore when he was alive.
- A clip circulating on the Internet with the content of Meritorious Artist Vu Linh talking about leaving the house to Hong Phuong is considered by many to be an "oral will". Do you know this information?
All the clips posted were recorded by Phuong at parties, when my father was drunk. After that, I never heard him mention this again.
Phuong and Ms. Sau's family moved into the house in 2021. For nearly 2 years, Phuong repeatedly requested to join the household registration but her father refused. If he intended to leave the entire house to Phuong, why didn't he do it? I don't know what Phuong's purpose was in filming and posting it on social media. Legally, the above videos are not recognized by the court.
I've been exhausted and unemployed for the past few months.
- The issue that everyone is interested in is whether Hong Loan is adopted or biological, how do you prove this?
Whether adopted or biological, on paper I am still my father's only legal child.
When I was 15, many people around me often said that I was adopted. I was very sad and told this story to my father. At that time, my father said: "There is no such thing, your DNA is like mine." I just believed what my father said.
In addition, I have a birth certificate as well as evidence that my relationship with my father is legally recognized. I am also willing to undergo a DNA test to prove it if necessary.
- How has the noise affected you in recent days?
Since my father’s funeral, I have lost 5-6 kg because I eat less and have not slept well at night. I am exhausted and my spirit is down because I have to worry too much.
I have been unemployed for the past 3 months. I used to run a small business so my finances are not that good. I didn’t dare tell anyone for fear that people would misunderstand me complaining.
Now I still have to borrow money to cover my family's living expenses and take care of my children. Luckily, there are some friendly brothers and sisters and audiences around me to help and encourage me, so it helps a bit.
There was a girl who was a fan of my father who even braised chicken and cooked soup to bring over because she was afraid I wouldn’t have any to eat. When I was embarrassed to refuse, she said: “Consider it as me taking care of you on your father’s behalf.” Mr. Vu Luan also supported me in getting an altar to properly worship my father. Those feelings moved me.
- What is your wish now?
I am very sad and heartbroken that things have come to this. My father lived a clean life and was very honorable. Now that he is gone, everything has become noisy and chaotic. I feel sorry for my father because he has passed away and has to endure bad rumors.
As a son, I only hope that my father will be buried in peace and rest in peace. On the 100th day of his death, I plan to hold a concert and invite artists to bid him farewell. I also wait for the lawsuit to end soon so that I can release the burden that has been haunting me for the past few months.
Hong Loan hopes the scandal will end soon so she can start a new life.
- What do you plan for your life in the future?
For many years, I lived with my husband's family in Nha Be district. Now the children's family moved to live with their father, every day taking care of the incense and gathering together to make him happy.
Many of my father's colleagues advised me to follow in his footsteps. However, I was no longer young and did not feel suited to the showbiz environment, so I gave up. I planned to open a small milk tea shop next to my house to earn some money to support my children's education. My family was ordinary and did not have high demands, so as long as we had enough food and clothing, we were happy. To me, living a simple and leisurely life was happiness.
