Celebrating the 55th anniversary of Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre

NDO - On December 25, in Hanoi, Thang Long Puppetry Theatre held a ceremony to celebrate its 55th anniversary (1969-2024) and receive the Third Class Labor Medal, with the participation of representatives of relevant departments, ministries, and branches, along with many generations of puppetry artists of the Theatre.

Speaking at the Anniversary Ceremony, Meritorious Artist Thanh Hien, Director of Thang Long Puppetry Theatre affirmed: As an art unit established in 1969 with the function of performing puppetry art and collecting, preserving and promoting the value of traditional puppetry art of Thang Long - Hanoi , over the past 55 years, despite many ups and downs and challenges, generations of leaders, artists, actors and staff of Thang Long Puppetry Theatre have always been united, together persistently creating to bring the Theatre and Thang Long puppetry art to constantly develop and shine more and more.

Thanks to that, the Theater has not only become an increasingly attractive destination for domestic and international tourists, but also contributed to promoting and making a deep impression on the unique traditional art of water puppetry of Vietnam to the public in more than 40 countries around the world . Up to now, the Theater has had continuous performances 365 days a year, becoming the leading brand of Vietnamese water puppetry art.

The Director of Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre said that in the coming time, along with the development of the country and the capital, the Theatre will have more favorable opportunities to develop, but besides that, there are also many difficulties and challenges in preserving and promoting the traditional art form of water puppetry.

“With the spirit of innovation, creativity and attachment to the national cultural roots, Thang Long Puppetry Theatre will together promote the good traditions of the unit, bringing the Theatre further. On the new journey, we hope to continue to receive more attention, companionship and support from leaders at all levels, departments, branches, functional agencies and the social community so that Thang Long Puppetry Theatre in particular, and Vietnamese puppetry in general, will not only survive and develop, but also become a special cultural brand of Vietnam” - Meritorious Artist Thanh Hien expressed.

According to the Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports , Do Dinh Hong, Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre is one of the most successful traditional art units in the capital city of Hanoi, leaving a deep impression on the audience, contributing to bringing traditional water puppetry in particular, the image of the country and Vietnamese people in general - with the qualities of loving work, loving peace, with a rich culture, imbued with national identity to the world, with many impressive records such as: performing in more than 50 countries around the world; attracting the largest audience; welcoming the most international heads of state and politicians and being the only theatre in Asia to perform 365 days a year... This is an honor and pride, affirming that the Theatre is an ideal place to learn about the unique traditional culture of Vietnam.

The Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports suggested that in the coming time, cadres, civil servants, and employees of the Thang Long Water Puppetry Theater and the city's culture and sports sector need to continue the tradition together, firmly join hands, unite hearts, and strive to exceed and comprehensively fulfill the targets and tasks of the culture and sports sector in particular, and successfully carry out the 2025 political tasks of the City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee in general.

The theater also needs to continue to promote its role as the flagship of the capital's traditional arts, constantly creating and developing unique and rich puppetry art programs imbued with the cultural identity of Thang Long - Hanoi, while adapting to contemporary art trends, contributing to the development of the cultural industry market and promoting the socio-economic development of the capital.

In addition, the Theater also needs to continue to organize well the important activities of the Capital and the country in 2025, be ready to participate in the city's common foreign affairs activities organized domestically and abroad, contributing to spreading cultural values, national identity, promoting the image of Vietnam in the international arena, and arousing the solidarity of the Vietnamese community abroad.

On this occasion, Thang Long Puppetry Theatre was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal from the Party and State, recognizing the Theatre's positive contributions to the cause of building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.
