This victory not only brought him the title but also made him the first Vietnamese, and the first non-Chinese player in history, to win the prestigious men's individual standard chess event.
To reach the pinnacle of glory, Ly Huynh had to overcome a difficult journey, requiring a combination of class, steely courage and luck.
The title of "The first non-Chinese player to win the men's individual standard chess event at the World Xiangqi Championship" has engraved Vietnam's name on the map of the pinnacle of world Xiangqi.
It is expected that at 6:30 pm tonight, September 28, Lai Ly Huynh will arrive at Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC). At the airport, there will be leaders of the Department of Culture and Sports of HCMC, the media and many fans.
After winning the prestigious world title, as of the afternoon of September 28, chess player Lai Ly Huynh was awarded a total of 1.4 billion VND. Of which, former President of the Vietnam Chess Federation Nguyen Huu Luan and Phuong Trang Group received a bonus of 1.1 billion VND.

In addition, coach Nguyen Thanh Tung (teacher of Lai Ly Huynh) was also awarded 300 million VND by Mr. Nguyen Huu Luan. Player Nguyen Thanh Bao was awarded 100 million VND for the silver medal his teammate won with Ly Huynh.
The World Xiangqi Championship was first held in 1990, usually held every two years, and China has had a representative win all the first 18 editions in the most important category: men's individual standard chess. During this period, Vietnam came second twice, with Nguyen Thanh Bao in 2009 and Lai Ly Huynh in 2023.
This year, the tournament was held in Shanghai (China). Before the tournament, many star players of the host country received heavy penalties for match-fixing, so they could not participate.
