A pig farm with thousands of pigs raised according to a meticulous care process. Even in the midst of the African swine fever epidemic, the farm is still safe, with pigs of the best quality. That is the pig farm of a household in Yen Thanh village, Da Don commune, Lam Ha district.

Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, a farmer with a bright smile, comfortably shared with visitors to the farm that visitors who want to visit the barn must wear protective clothing and go through the proper disinfection system. Proper disinfection is to ensure that the pigs are not infected with diseases, avoiding diseases that have caused great harm to the Lam Dong pig herd. Also because of the strict farming process, Mr. Binh's pig farm has been safe through outbreaks of blue ear pig disease and African swine fever, bringing billions of dollars to the farm owner.
Mr. Nguyen Van Binh shared that as a farmer, the two most hesitant issues are output and disease situation. With crops already difficult, raising livestock is much harder because the cost is very high, if the price is low or there is an epidemic, the loss to farmers is very large. Therefore, when starting to raise livestock, Mr. Binh decided to build a standard barn, raise livestock for CP Livestock Joint Stock Company. Mr. Binh shared: “Raising for the company means that the breeding pigs, medicine, and all kinds of food are all provided by the company to the farmers. We only have the barn and take care of it according to the process prescribed by the company. On the scheduled date, the company comes to weigh the pigs and pay the farmers the wages based on the weight of the pigs. Raising livestock for the company does not get the same price as free-range farming, but in return, farmers raise livestock stably and can calculate their family income.”
Currently, Mr. Binh is raising a litter of 1,400 pigs for CP Livestock Joint Stock Company. With the price the company pays 3,000 VND/kg of live pigs, the bigger the pig, the better income Mr. Binh has. Mr. Binh said that if well cared for, an average pig will weigh 115 kg, with a duration of 5 months/batch, farmers can earn billions of VND/year with very low risk. Like his family, from 2008 until now, every year he has raised from 2,000 to 2,500 pigs for CP Livestock Joint Stock Company, an average of 2,500 tons of live pigs, earning enough income to support his children's education in the country and abroad, and to buy land and houses. That is not to mention the amount of pig manure collected and sold to farming households at 30,000 VND/bag, bringing in a significant source of income for the farm.
However, Ms. Tran Thi Nga, Mr. Binh's wife, also said that when participating in pig farming for livestock companies such as CP Livestock Joint Stock Company or Hoa Phat Company, farmers must ensure many strict requirements of the enterprise. Farmers must build standard barns, in the right wind direction, and airy. The care process ensures one-way entry and exit, disinfection, and strict disease monitoring. The company has technical staff coming down to advise and supervise regularly, pigs are weighed and have their blood tested to ensure standard quality, and must not use feed or drugs not provided by the company. Pigs must be cared for in good, airy conditions, free of insect stings, etc., and grow quickly and healthily. Ms. Nga said: "Many households raising pigs for CP Livestock Joint Stock Company but do not ensure the company's requirements will have their contracts canceled. When cooperating with enterprises, farmers must strictly follow the regulations of the enterprise, keep their reputation to cooperate long-term." Like your family, when building a pig pen, you also built a wastewater collection system, treated it with a biogas tank, both to utilize the waste and convert it into clean energy, and to eliminate odors, without affecting the surrounding people. Every month, the farm uses tons of probiotics to ensure a clean environment, keeping the pigs and the surrounding environment healthy.
Mr. Ha My, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Da Don Commune, assessed that Mr. Nguyen Van Binh's family is a good producer of the commune and Lam Ha District. Not only does his family have a good income from raising pigs for processing, but his family also enthusiastically participates in new rural construction movements, education and talent promotion movements, and supports people around during festivals. He and his wife are typical examples of farmers participating in production chains with enterprises, both enriching themselves and contributing to the development of the countryside.
