At the press conference on socio-economic data for the second quarter and the first 6 months of 2024 held this morning (June 29), General Director of the General Statistics Office Nguyen Thi Huong said that the average consumer price index (CPI) in the second quarter of 2024 increased by 4.39% compared to the second quarter of 2023. On average, in the first 6 months of 2024, the CPI increased by 4.08% over the same period last year.
In the 0.17% increase in CPI in June 2024 compared to the previous month, there were 8 groups of goods and services with price indexes increasing and 3 groups with price indexes decreasing. Of which, the group of food and catering services increased the most with a rate of 0.75%. Contributing to the overall CPI increase of 0.25 percentage points.
The transportation group saw the biggest decrease, down 2.27%. Mainly due to a 0.17% decrease in the price of transportation. Diesel prices fell 0.95%. Gasoline prices fell 5.86% due to price adjustments during the month.
According to the General Statistics Office, the average CPI in the first 6 months of 2024 increased by 4.08% compared to the same period in 2023. The main reason is that the average price index of food and catering services in the first 6 months of 2024 increased by 4% compared to the same period last year (causing the general CPI to increase by 1.34 percentage points). The price index of housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials increased by 5.51% compared to the same period last year, causing the general CPI to increase by 1.04 percentage points...
In the first 6 months of 2024, the producer price index of agriculture , forestry and fishery is estimated to increase by 7.43% over the same period last year. The service producer price index is estimated to increase by 7% over the same period last year. The price index of raw materials used for production is estimated to increase by 2.16% over the same period last year. The export price index of goods is estimated to decrease by 1.95% over the same period last year.
The average core inflation in the first 6 months of the year increased by 2.75% compared to the same period in 2023, lower than the average CPI (up 4.08%). Mainly due to the price of food, electricity, education services and health services which are factors affecting the increase in CPI but are excluded from the list of core inflation.
