At the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man , Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won Shik and his wife will pay an official visit to Vietnam from November 20 to 22, 2025. On this occasion, Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Vu Ho shared with Nhan Dan Newspaper reporters about the significance of this visit.

Promoting substantive cooperation between Vietnam and Korea

According to Ambassador Vu Ho, this year is a particularly exciting year in Vietnam-Korea relations with a series of high-level contacts and exchanges between the two countries, culminating in the visits of General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong. In that context, the visit to Vietnam by National Assembly Chairman Woo Won Sik carries many important meanings.

First of all, this visit demonstrates the strong political determination of the Republic of Korea in deepening and substantively implementing the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Next, this event also affirms the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in the overall relationship between the two countries. The visit also sends a strong message of political trust, strategic cohesion and a common vision towards peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Sharing the highlights of the official visit to Vietnam by Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won Sik, Ambassador Vu Ho said that within the framework of the visit, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea will hold talks and high-level contacts with leaders of the National Assembly, Party and State of Vietnam. The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea will also attend a number of parliamentary exchange activities and economic and cultural events to promote substantive cooperation between the two countries. In addition, the delegation will also have contacts with the Korean business community investing in Vietnam and discuss new cooperation directions.

“The visit of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam with a busy schedule at the end of the year brings about deep expectations for the bilateral relations. The content of the high-level exchanges is both symbolic of the comprehensive strategic partnership entering a period of blossoming, and has profound strategic significance, concluding a successful year, creating a premise for strong development next year. At the same time, the presence of the National Assembly leaders at the exchange events will also be a great source of encouragement for the National Assembly, the business community and the people of the two countries to continue to strive and contribute to the increasingly strong Vietnam-Korea relationship,” Ambassador Vu Ho emphasized.

Parliamentary cooperation holds a particularly important position in Vietnam-Korea relations.

Ambassador Vu Ho said that in the Vietnam-Korea relationship, parliamentary cooperation holds a particularly important position, and is a tool to convey the political will of the people of the two countries, wishing for a healthy, sustainable and future-oriented development of the relationship.

In addition, this cooperative relationship does not only stop at the bilateral framework, but also flourishes in multilateral parliamentary activities such as the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). This is a manifestation of multi-level cooperation, profound in content, comprehensive in activities and rich in form.

Through regular contacts, meetings and exchanges, the leaders of the two countries' National Assemblies have been creating a favorable environment for coordinating positions, legislative cooperation, and coordinating joint activities in the region and on the international arena. In fact, this is also a step to support the joint activities of the Governments, businesses and people of the two countries in the process of interaction for peace and prosperity of the two nations.

Thus, it can be said that the relationship between the two parliaments in recent times has not only covered all areas of cooperation between Vietnam and Korea, but also demonstrated the friendly and open relationship between the leaders of the two countries. This was clearly demonstrated through the meetings of National Assembly Chairman Woo Won Sick with the highest leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam.

According to Ambassador Vu Ho, based on the great foundations formed, consolidated and developed over the past decades, in order to deepen parliamentary cooperation and make practical contributions to the interests of each country's people in the new period, the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Korea need to promote cooperation to promote a stable, transparent and favorable legal framework for businesses and people of the two countries; including policies to support high-quality investment, protect workers' rights, encourage innovation and green economy. This completely coincides with the Government's priorities as well as the aspirations and capacities of businesses and people of the two countries.

Next, it is necessary to increase information exchange, learn from experience and improve capacity for the two countries' parliaments in legislation and policy coordination, especially in priority areas such as digital transformation, energy, social security, labor and employment, administrative reform, environment and climate change.

Along with that, it is necessary to promote exchange activities between parliamentarians of the two countries. This is a premise for cultural-educational-local exchange, as well as a foundation to enhance understanding and empathy between the people of Vietnam and Korea.
